For over 50 years the Scandinavian Workshop has existed to provide assistance to women learning handwork sewing techniques, such as knitting,
embroidery, hardanger, crochet and quilting. The women also enjoy coffee time and socializing. The group originally started in the basement of Ella
Simonsen’s home, and was organized by Ella and Nellie Norman. Fond memories exist of the time spent at Lenore Hauke’s float house on the John
Day River. Presently the women meet at First Lutheran Church on Monday mornings at 10 a.m., and encourage anyone to join them. Pictured, from
left, are Pat Whitten, Edna Roshau, Cheryl Ohler, Joanne Baker, Carol Haskett and Phyllis Hayrynen.
