The Astoria School Dis- trict, which administra- tors say is experiencing an increase of students reporting self-harming behaviors and having suicidal thoughts, is working with Clatsop Behav- ioral Healthcare to bring in outside help. Lines for Life, a nonpro¿ t focused on preventing sub- stance abuse and suicide, will visit classes at Astoria Mid- dle School Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to talk with students about how to make healthy choices. Linda Berger, the principal of the middle school, said she sees the increase in reports as somewhat of a positive, meaning students are reach- ing out for help. She said the increase might be related to the assignment of counsel- ors from Clatsop Behavioral Healthcare on campus. There will also be edu- cational sessions for parents from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mon- Carol (Long) Little day, Tuesday and Wednes- day at the middle school, 1100 Klaskanine Ave., to learn about community sup- port. There will be a panel available for questions, and child care. Call Clatsop Behav- ioral Healthcare at 503-325- 4331 to arrange an emer- gency screening if a child is suicidal or harming them- selves, or request a screening at a hospital emergency room. Lines For Life’s crisis line is 800-273-8255. ® ACCUWEATHER FORECAST FOR ASTORIA Astoria 5-Day Forecast Tonight Oregon Weather Shown is tomorrow’s weather.
