This year features Mitch and Jolinn Hoover, equine clinicians. Their championship awards span a variety of disciplines, including Western performance, roping, reining, cattle and stock dog events, mountain trail, versatil- ity ranch horse and cowboy challenges. Their world-record performances include the high- est scoring run and the most consecutive open championships (seven times) at the National Mountain Trail Championship competition. In addition to the Hoovers, many of last year’s presenters will return. The goal is to educate horse owners and potential horse owners on horse stewardship and equine opportunities in the region. The focus is on horse ownership, nutrition, train- ing and recreation opportunities, and the event includes seminars, vendor booths, displays and demonstrations throughout the day. Alvarez named student of the month The Daily Astorian WARRENTON — Esmer- alda Alvarez, a Warrenton High School senior and stu- dent council member, has been selected to be the fourth recip- ient of the Warrenton Sun- rise Rotary Club’s Student of the Month award. The pro- gram honors accomplished local high school students who clearly make a differ- ence in their school and/or in Esmeralda Alvarez their community. The school administration chooses each recipient. McBride — McEnulty Gary and Jeanne McBride of Warrenton announce the engagement of their daugh- ter, Katie McBride of Jeffer- son, to Brian McEnulty also of Jefferson. He is the son of Laura Johnson of Warrenton. The bride-to-be gradu- ated Warrenton High School in 2007, and from both Linn–Benton Community College and Western Ore- gon University with a bach- elor’s degree in interdisci- plinary studies. She works at Tangent Elementary School as a math specialist.
