Christie, born to Dan and Eleanor Christie on Oct. 9, 1944, in Brunswick, Maine, passed away in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Feb. 3, 2016. Mark earned his bachelor’s degree at Bow- doin College in Maine, and his master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Oregon in Eugene. While a graduate student, he taught part- time with Oregon Project NewGate at the Oregon State Penitentiary. He accepted a teaching position at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon, in 1971, where he taught math at various levels until 1981. In May 1973 he married Mary Cay Kinney, and together they shared a love of books, baseball and cards. From 1977 to 1981, Mark served on the Astoria City Council. While in Astoria he enjoyed VSRUW¿VKLQJIRUVDOPRQDQGVWXUJHRQ After a brief move to Maine, Mark and Mary Cay settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1982. He taught mathematics at LSU until he retired in 2007. He was known as a gifted teacher with a unique ability to help anyone grasp math. He enjoyed LSU Tiger sports and NFL games. Mark was preceded in death by Mary Cay in 2011, and his stepson Randy Kinney of Astoria. He is survived by his stepchildren Paula Kinney Bue, Kevin Kinney and Steven Kinney of Asto- ULDDVZHOODVKLVGDXJKWHUIURPKLV¿UVWPDUULDJH Amanda Murphy of Bend, Oregon.
