decided to consult Zith the
company that provides the

could provide increased secu

says district leaders are ZorN
inJ to increase security on
school campuses.
2ver the cominJ months,
maintenance staff Zill be
installinJ steel barrier doors.
District leaders are also maN
inJ plans to purchase a secure
entry system for each campus.

ter to parents, 5isner said she
also met Zith three parents
³Zho Zere concerned that Ze
did not have more security
systems in place.”
,n the letter, 5isner said
that Zhen district leaders Jot

they found that even basic
systems ranJed from ,

total cost, she said, Zould be

2f¿ ce staff Zill manaJe the

Other doors on the campus
Zill have secure carden

that the /onJ %each upJrade
Zill cost the district about
,.
District staff are applyinJ
for a Jrant that could help pay
for the neZ security features.
%ut 5isner said that because
the price is so much loZer
than e[pected, the district isn¶t
ZaitinJ to purchase the ¿ rst
neZ system.
5isner said the ne[t cam
pus to receive a system Zill
be Ocean 3arN. The district
hasn¶t Jotten a bid for that sys

about the same as in /onJ
%each. 1e[t year, the district
Zill tacNle security at Hilltop

5isner said.
³The hiJh school is a differ

there are so many more doors,
so that¶s Jonna be our last
area,” 5isner e[plained.
5isner said the district has
also purchased steel door bar
riers for all classroom and
Jymnasium doors.
The tZo locNdoZns in the
last year Zere both purely pre
cautionary, 5isner said. There
Zas never actually a danJer
ous person on any campus
durinJ either incident. %ut,
should a real activeshooter
incident ever occur, the doors
should help to limit the harm.
³The barriers come hiJhly
recommended and Zill ensure
that an intruder can¶t Jet in
the classroom for a very lonJ
time,” 5isner said in her let
ter. The district¶s mainte
nance staff Zill be installinJ
the doors over the ne[t several
months.
