A private, perfectly situated house in Arch Cape had been rented for the occasion. Out back, a path to the beach, lined with tiki torches, led to chairs and a decorated archway in the sand. The newlyweds really wanted their nuptials to be a relaxed, low- key affair with about 100 close friends and family members invited. Art says, “We wanted no gifts, no stress and to make sure our guests enjoyed themselves.” The couple had spent a lot of time on the North Coast, a lot of it in Cannon Beach. So, they loved the idea of being there with most of their favorite people. The Big Day A private, perfectly-situated house in Arch Cape had been rented for the occasion. Out back, a path to the beach, lined with tiki torches, led to chairs and a decorated archway in the sand. Beyond that was the ocean. Before guests were seated, those willing and over 21 got a “unity shot” of Captain Morgan Rum and a little can of Diet Coke — to set the tone, if you will, for the revelry to follow. “It was something to relax everyone so they have a good time,” laughs Art. Then, to Katy Perry’s song, “1,000 Years,” Kim walked down the sandy aisle on the arm of her brother, Chad Johns. Clad in a mermaid- style, strapless dress of ivory covered in lace with an off-the-face veil, she carried a stunning bouquet of tiger lilies, fashioned by Mimi’s Flowers in Seaside. Art looked dapper in a summery, light-colored suit and brightly hued bowtie. Two of his best buddies — Johnny Cooper and B.J. Bentley — jointly performed the ceremony, having become officiates just for the occasion. It was 81 degrees and the sun shone brightly. The bride’s vibrant wedding colors — orange and pink — provided wonderful splashes of color on the tables. A friend and professional bartender, Kevin Kirkpatrick, entertained everyone with his flashy moves — mixing kamikazes, lemon drops and margaritas and more, with abandon. Because there wasn’t enough guest parking at the house for their guests, Art had hired an employee from his shop to shuttle guests from the wedding to wherever they were staying. Sue Neuwirth, formerly of Cranky Sue’s restaurant in Cannon Beach, catered the reception. The food just went on and on, including clam chowder shooters, crab cakes., seafood macaroni and cheese and so much more. Chef Jonathan Hoffman, whipped up a small chocolate cake for cutting, topped with simple flowers with a dark chocolate ganache; a lemon loaf cake with fresh strawberries; individual-sized cheesecakes; and vanilla and chocolate cupcakes. Hoffman operates Chef’s Table in Cannon Beach which caters great food for two, twenty or 200 people, indoors or out. Congratulations Kim and Art. Long life and happiness to you both. 14 | RIVER & SEA WEDDINGS 2016 Honeym oons By 433 13th St., Astoria 503-325-1531 Phone: (503) 436-1214 Cell: (503) 791-3515 Cannon Beach, Oregon www.julieadamsphotography.com julie@julieadamsphotography.com
