Cannon Beach History Center & Museum T Art. History. Fun. The Cannon Beach History Center and Museum is located in mid-town Cannon Beach at the corner of Sunset and Spruce Street. As the town’s only history museum, a visit isn’t complete without a tour through the museum’s exhibits. This fall, the museum opened “What Remains: Japanese Americans in Internment Camps”, a textile exhibit from Cathy Erickson of Portland, Oregon. The nearly twenty-piece exhibit, which is sponsored by Cannon Beach’s Center Diamond, explores the stories, experiences, and history behind Japanese Internment Camps in America during World War II through textile art. But textile art isn’t all that you will find at this small town museum. The latest temporary exhibit entitled, “WWII on the Oregon Coast” explores the historic events and features shared stories, artifacts, and images of World War II on the Oregon Coast. The exhibit was made possible in part by a grant from Oregon Humanities (OH), a statewide nonprofit organization and an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds OH’s grant program. While in town on Saturday, November 7, have a little family fun and join the Museum’s annual trivia contest. The event is a combination of a scavenger hunt and trivia contest. At just $2 a sheet and an almost guaranteed chance to win some candy from Bruce’s Candy Kitchen, it is a must-do. Answer all of the questions correctly and receive a prize! They will be offering free Sleepy Monk coffee, hot chocolate, and tasty treats. The Museum also offers an acoustic series, which begins in February with a concert by Museum favorite, Lauren Sheehan. Tickets are $12 for adults and $2 for children. Our lecture series will begin February as well with presentations by archaeologists, scientists, and inventors.
