Scappoose runs away with league opener, 47-13
By GARY HENLEY

For the Astoria Fishermen, it was
just one of those nights. Whatever
could go wrong, did go wrong.
And the Scappoose football team

— was there to take advantage.
A close ball game at halftime
(Scappoose 14, Astoria 7) turned into
a second half blowout, as the Indians
overcame multiple penalties (nine for
67 yards) to score a 47-13 win over the
Fishermen.
The Cowapa League football open-
er was played in front of a packed

But it was Parson who will remem-
ber this one a little more fondly than
the rest of us. And walked away with
two CMH Field records that will likely
stand for a long, long time — longest
interception return and longest fumble
return for touchdowns.

fumble on a fourth down play, and —
you know who — scooped the ball up
and sprinted 99 yards the other way for
a touchdown.
