JOHN EO Media Group LONG BEACH, Wash. — Local and visiting youngsters tried their hands at a wide va- riety of rodeo events geared to kids at the annual Surf n’ Saddle Junior Rodeo earli’er this month. Bucking ponies, steer daubing, breakaway roping, barrel racing, goat tying, dummy roping and more ex- citing events — including a parade — made for a fun and exciting time. ABOVE LEFT: A competitor celebrated after successfully removing a ribbon from a goat’s tail. The “Goat Un-Decorating” competition gives preschool-aged buckaroos a chance to practice quickly dismounting from their horses and wrangling livestock. ABOVE RIGHT: Spectators looked on as a young bull rider was thrown from a particularly rowdy mount. The furious bull began trying to throw his rider before the wranglers had even opened the chute. Flustered after being repeatedly thrown to the ground and tied up, a goat stubbornly refused to budge when a young wrangler tried to coax him out of the arena. Erika Glenn stayed calm and kept her mount when her horse, Sassy, struggled with precompetition jitters during the annual Junior Rodeo Aug. 8.
