Dave Drury, friends perform at the PAC Partners for the PAC presents night of jazz, contemporary music ASTORIA — Popular northwest guitarist Dave Drury will head- line an artistic event in conjunc- tion with the Astoria Society of $UWLVWV¶¿IWKDQQXDO6WXGLR7RXU The concert, “A Night with Dave Drury and Friends,” is presented by Partners for the PAC and will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25 at the Clatsop Community Col- lege Performing Arts Center, lo- cated at 588 16th St. The concert will feature a va- riety of musicians including the popular duo Basin Street NW made up of guitarist Drury and bassist Todd Pederson. Included will be songs by the talented vo- calist Aleesha Nedd. Basin Street NW will also be joined by trom- bonist Bob Joiner performing an original piece entitled, “Lynda” in honor of his wife. Another highlight of the eve- ning will be music by the group Equinox, featuring Drury and Pederson with Shelley Loring RQÀXWH/RULQJEULGJHVWKHJDS between classical music and jazz seamlessly and with virtuosity. John Snyder, who has a great passion for the guitar and has been studying with Drury for years, will kick off the program. The concert will include several of Drury’s original compositions, many of which have been inspired by Astoria’s waterfront and the Columbia River, as well as jazz standards and contemporary songs. Though he is well known for his ability to improvise and play MD]]KLVPXVLFLVLQÀXHQFHGDQG inspired by many years playing rock, blues, jazz, country, clas- sical, swing, big band standards and show tunes. With more than 50 years experience as a pro- fessional guitarist, songwriter and singer, he is a versatile and contemporary musician. Dru- ry has performed regularly at Bridgewater Bistro for several years, Astoria Golf and Country Club for 30 years and a variety of venues including concerts at the CCC Performing Arts Center, the Liberty Theater, Portland-ar- ea restaurants and nightclubs, as well as a variety of public and private social events and record- ing studio dates. Drury began playing pro- fessionally in the early 1960s. After graduating from Phoenix College, he attended Arizona State University as music a ma- jor. He has performed in much of the United States, including engagements at concert halls and resorts in Los Angeles, Califor- nia; Phoenix, Arizona; Denver, Colorado and Portland. Other notable performances include concerts on two occasions with the Phoenix Symphony, one un- der the direction of David Rose and again with Percy Faith. In 1969, he and a group worked with RCA Records and moved to Los Angeles, Califor- nia where they recorded the na- tionally released album “Myrth,” which contained 10 original songs. Following a period of performing and writing, Drury recorded another album of orig- inal material in 1975. He moved to the Astoria area in 1983. Currently he divides his time between performing, writ- ing and recording music and is in his 24th year offering private instruction in guitar at Clatsop Community College. Todd Pederson has been a lifelong music student dab- bling in many styles including a long-standing appreciation for the jazz medium. Pederson plays stand-up bass and earned a Bach- elor of Art in music from Central Washington University. Aleesha Nedd grew up in Astoria studying voice at the Astoria Conservatory of Music. She later attended Clatsop Community Col- lege and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in com- munications from Portland State University. Nedd also sang with The Green Note, Portland State University’s acappella group. Coming from a musical family, Shelley Loring was exposed to a variety of music from an early age. She per- formed in jazz ensembles and VWXGLHGEULHÀ\ZLWKMD]]ÀXWLVW Hubert Laws. After complet- ing her music degrees at San Francisco State University and Portland State University, she performed in many orchestras and chamber ensembles in the San Francisco Bay and Port- land areas. She toured with the Ralph Wells Trio for Com- munity Concerts Organization and served as substitute extra ÀXWHLQWKH2UHJRQ6\PSKRQ\ On the Oregon Coast, Loring has performed with North Or- egon Coast Symphony, Astoria Chamber Players, North Coast Symphonic Band, Equinox Jazz Trio and other performing groups. She currently teaches ÀXWH OHVVRQV DQG .LQGHU PX- sic classes through the Astoria Conservatory of Music.
