CHIP-in and help clean up Cathlamet puts on 34th annual Bald Eagle Days festival Cathedral Tree Trail July 19 ASTORIA — Astoria Parks and Recreation’s Citizen’s Helping Improve Parks (CHIP-in) program will host its next park cleanup at Cathe- dral Tree Trail. Volunteers are also urged to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. CHIP-in has other volun- teer opportunities available with monthly park clean-ups as well as park adoption. When Congress passed the Bald Eagle Endangered Spe- cies Act, the Cathlamet Wom- en’s Club decided to parade through Cathlamet in support of the majestic bird. Over the years, the annual event has grown into a festival drawing crowds of more than 3,000 people. The bald eagle is no longer endangered, and Wahkiakum County is proud of that many eagles can be seen in and around the area. The annual festival is a weekend of fun and offers one RIWKHEHVW¿UHZRUNVVKRZVLQ the state of Washington.
