LightBox opens ‘Emotional Rescue’ Show benefits photographer’s parents following house fire ASTORIA — LightBox Pho- tographic Gallery will open “Emotional Rescue,” a se- ries of large-format Polaroid photographs created by Pol- ly Chandler of Nashville, Tennessee, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 9. The exhibi- tion displays a collection of images Chandler has made RYHUWKHFRXUVHRIKHU¿QHDUW photography career. “Each image is a narra- tive representing myself, an occurrence in my life, or a way to communicate my ex- periences,” Chandler said. “I have friends and family stand-in for ‘me.’ But, ulti- mately, each image is my sto- ry, a visual diary if you like.” LightBox takes pride in presenting Chandler’s imag- es. With this exhibit the gal- lery hopes to help to assist her parents, who recently lost WKHLU KRPH WR D ¿UH /LJKW- Box printed the collection for Chandler, which is for sale and without a commission to the gallery. “This particular exhibi- tion is especially close to my heart because, not only am I absolutely honored to have been invited by LightBox Photographic Gallery to have a solo exhibition, it is also a EHQH¿WIRUP\SDUHQWVZKRVH house burned down to the ground about a month ago,” added Chandler. Chandler grew up in Il- linois and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in pho- tography from Southern Illi- nois University. Formerly of Austin, Texas, she has taught classes at the Art Institute of Austin and at Austin Com- munity College. She has ex- hibited her work nationally and her photographs have been published in magazines VXFK DV 3'1 5DQJH¿QGHU and B&W Magazine. She was also nominated for the prestigious Lucie Award pre- sented at Carnegie Hall. The Healing Circle will put on its second annual Heel to Heal race June 13 to raise funds for the 28th year of VOCA (Victory Over Child Abuse) camps. The theme for this year’s race is superheroes (and she- roes), so grab your cape, wand, crown, or invisible lasso and be a champion for local kids. The event will include both a 5K and 10K this year, and it will start at 10 a.m. in the parking lot by the Sixth Street pier in downtown Astoria.
