Great Vow Zen CLATSKANIE — The Great Vow Zen Monastery, located at 79640 Quin- cy-Mayger Road in Clatskanie, holds a Jizo Ceremony for Children from 3 to 5:30 p.m. May 23. To help families and friends in their process of grief over the death of a child, lost children are honored in a cer- emony in the Jizo Bodhisattva remem- brance garden. Time is spent making a personal memorial for the child, by writing a message, making a simple toy or neck- lace, or sewing a small garment. There are materials available, but participants may wish to bring scissors, thread, needle, and a small piece of red cloth. Many also bring a picture of the child or other personal token of remembrance. These memorials are left on the Jizo statues. Families and friends are wel- come to revisit the garden any time.
