Ocean Shores issues call for art Submit one to six entries for April show OCEAN SHORES, Wash. — The Associated Arts of Ocean Shores celebrates 41 years with the 2015 spring Fine Art, Photography and Elec- tronic Media Show to take place April 24, 25 and 26 at the Ocean Shores Conven- tion Center, located at 120 Chance a la Mer in . The AAOS annual spring art show became a nation- al show in 1980. Fine arts, photography and electronic media provide three simul- taneous shows in one week- end. Both the juried and open portion of the show allows artists to submit from one to six entries in the three categories with a chance to win cash prizes, ribbons and awards. This also includes a youth category in the open show. In addition, more than 15 artists will show and sell their latest work. Organized in 1971 and established in 1974, AAOS is dedicated to supporting the arts. Located on the northern peninsula of Grays Harbor, AAOS is a part of the North Beach communi- ty. Learn to manage your risks Science on Tap talks earthquakes, tsunamis ASTORIA — The Colum- bia River Maritime Museum presents the next Science on Tap: “Managing the Risks of Living on the North Coast” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5. Presenter Pat Corcoran will emphasize how people on the North Coast can grap- ple productively with the threat of a large earthquake and tsunamis. Considerable time will be spent address- ing typical “tsunami scenar- ios” and ¿elding questions from the audience. Maps of county inundation zones will be available for partici- pants to locate their “tsunami footprint,” identifying the vulnerability of their home, business, school, etc. Corcoran is an associate professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospher- ic Sciences at Oregon State University. He works locally to build community resilience to coastal hazards through the Clatsop County OSU Exten- sion Service and Oregon Sea Grant. Corcoran’s areas of in- terest include chronic hazards like coastal erosion and shore- line change, and the Cascadia subduction zone. Science on Tap, in part- nership with the Fort George Brewery, is a Columbia Riv- er Maritime Museum pro- gram introducing maritime science, history, and technol- ogy in an informal setting. This program is free and open to the public; minors are allowed with adult. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the pre- sentation takes place in the Fort George Lovell Show- room, located at 426 14th St. For more information call 503-325-2323.
