“Yep, we’re pretty tight,” Sarah said. Sarah’s mom caught
up in the moment took the note from her daughter. Thinking
she had handed her a hanky, she set it aside. Following the
ceremony, the note was retrieved and delivered, adding a
memorable anecdote to this wedding story full of many av-
enues of love.
Longtime family friend and church pastor Nicholas
Nilema, aka Father Nick, prior to the wedding had asked
Sarah and Marcus to each write what they loved about the
other.
“During our ceremony he surprised us by reading what we
had written. It was a Father Nick’s perfect touch,” Sarah said.
The couple said their “I do’s,” became Mr. and Mr. Mar-
cus Brown and made their way through their guests as
Melissa Linder played “Wrapped Up In You;” and photogra-
pher Jessica Starr captured their happiness.
At the reception site, the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, K
and M Caterers had a bounty of appetizers and libations ready
and waiting as the 400 guests began to arrive.
Dinner was served at 5:30.
“Again everything was perfect,” Sarah said.
Kari Alfonse, the “K” of the catering duo, returned the
compliment.
“I’ve dealt with a lot of really nice people, and the LaCoste
Family is one of the nicest. Sarah’s mom, Sally, is an awe-
some planner.” said Kari.
Not much for cake, the newlyweds had 600 cake pops —
resembling Tootsie Roll Pops – shipped from Raleigh, N.C.
“We served them in flower pots. My flower girls and
cousins refilled all evening,” Sarah said.
And befitting the sweet celebration, Bruce’s Candy
Kitchen created a huge candy bar, a hit with all ages.
No detail overlooked, one of Marcus’ mom’s friend made
a little wedding cake to cut, as Sarah’s sister Sophie, who was
the maid of honor, her dad, Kevin LaCoste, and best man,
Marcus’ brother Kevin Brown offered toasts.
Dan Gastelum, from Southern California, volunteered to
take care of all the music at the reception.
“Honestly I think he did more planning for our reception
than I did. He was unreal. It was perfect too,” said Sarah.
The newlyweds’ first dance was Kenny Chesney’s “Me
and You,” and the crowd was up and ready to party.
The bride and groom left for the Cannery Hotel before
midnight, a happy Mr. and Mrs.
Rumor has it their guests partied on.
Two days later it was back to real life. Marcus started his
senior year at the OSU where he, Sarah and Maisyn live with
Grandma Pat (of the ‘Love you more’ note fame). No grass
growing under the couple’s feet, a day after fall term ended,
they were off again to honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Marcus graduates in June — stay tuned for the Brown
family’s next adventure.
“Really everything was just so special about our wedding,
but especially the way it brought all of us together. But then
I’m biased! Yep!” adds the new Mrs. Brown.
