ELK PRAIRIE PEOPLE STOP SHEEP M DESTROYING FEED EUC PRAIRIE, June 23. Mr. May nloaded 4500 sheep In Malolla, a tew lays ago and started for the range , with five men, fire dogs and several pack horses to care for the sheep. The first night's camp was near the home of Jesse Bagbe. Two herders tamed back after the sheep were started on the road. Teh second night the camp was made above Swopes saw mill. The third forenoon the sheep were In Elk Prairie. The settlers, some of whom held tilled land and homesteads notified Mr. Mays that the land here Is taken and that they would want to use their own teed in the future. The sheep were Immedi ately turned back to retrace their steps. Mr. Mays stated that he had understood the true situation be fore as the sheep had eaten all the feed by the wayside on the trip up and it had not the time to recuperate be- Mr. Tldd- was foreman of the finish ing department In the Hawley paper, mill, before coming to his homestead the past year. Mr. Tldd learned his trade as a paper worker, in Hartford Indian using his trade as a means to see the United States from Wiscon sin to Oregon, he has worked In twenty mills. Chas. TWd spent his first year tn Oregon City working tor the Crown Willamette Taper Co, going to the Hawley miU in 1907, where he has worked nearly steadily at his trade until the big snow storm last winter. About two weeks before Mr. Tldd's arrival In Oregon City. Mips Edna LaDuke had arrived In the same city from Monroe, Washington. I-ater ihese young people met and were united in marriage. Two sous were born of whom one, Vernon, aged eleven, remains to comfort his parents.
