However there teemed to be one that hit the measures on the ballot la this precinct A light vote, 68 being the number who voted. Total on all the measures, the affirmative vote was 157, negative 44S, or about 16 tor to 48 against. A grandson, born to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Cromer June 6. John Boss came home Tuesday morning and surprised the home folks having received his discharge. He has been stationed at Camp Lee, Va. One by one the Logan boys are com ing back again. Fred Minder is still In Siberia but we hope to hear of his coming soon. Will be a Grange picnic at the Hard ing Park Saturday, June 21. Good time for all, good speakers, etc Din ner in the grove, and last but not least, a big dance at night Flecht ner's orchestra. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Duus, of Maupin, are visiting the home folks also his sister Mrs. N . L. Kirchem and will attend the Rose show Wednesday. They motored down from their home. Mountain Road MOUNTAIN ROAD, June 12. A few of the young people from this district attended the dance at Mulloy Satur day night Mr. and Mrs. John Hellberg visited Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Koellermeier Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hodge motored on the Col umbia River Highway last Wednes day. The party went as far as Eagle Creek where1 they spent most of the day. Mr. and Mrs. McCaskill are visiting relatives this week. Miss Sylvia Hodge spent the week end at her home. Mr. Kaufman sold some hogs last Monday for which he received a good price. Mrs. P. Rath and son motored to Portland last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Paulsen visited Mr. and Mrs. Doryland last Sunday evening. Willie Una, of the 6th Infantry, who has been serving the colors, received his discharge last week at New Tork and returned home last Saturday even ing. v Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Haxlers, Otto Jamesen. and Albert Llns attended the ball game at Estacada last Sunday. Albert McClinlock, of Portland, called on his mother-in-law, Mrs. Edd. Harders, last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Horger, Mr. Klinker and daughters, Helen and Elsie Klinker, of Portland, visited the former's mother, Mrs. Marie Klinker. of George last Sunday. visited Miss Laura Brenner last Sun day, Mr. and Mrs. Newhouse and " son Marinus were also guests of Miss Brenner and her mother Sunday. Allle Olsen has been ill but is re covering. Mildred Hadley, who has been visit ing relatives in Oregon City has re turned. John Kuiuman purchased an ensil age cutter last week. He intends to fill his silo soon. The sheep shearer is expected here the first of the week. School closed Friday. This was the end of Miss Brenner's third success ful term here. We regret to have her leave but she has accepted a position in the Willamette school. Miss Bren ner has never had a pupil fall to pass, since she has been teaching. On the last day of school, June 6, there was a school picnic, lasting all day. The teacher and twenty one pu- The next meeting will be the first Friday In September. The entertain ment committee for the next meeting Is: Ed Meyrlek, chairman, Elsie Clark and Ray Harney. When Mr. Scott, the county agent, talked to the children at school about the first of March, he urged them to trap moles. Several ct the boys took up the work and now, after two months of trapping. Case Newhouse heads the list with 41 moles to his crdit, Oscar Ahlberg has 38. Mr. Rossman found tho relic of some former chase in the form of a bear's skeleton, while clearing his homestead. Mr. Solder's son Is now on his home stead and Is building a house. A new road la being made between the Snider' place and Mr. Rossman's homestead. Mrs. Tidd and son, Vernon, accom panied by Miss Burdett and her brother visited Falls Creek, on the Badger homestead, a few days ago. Willis Badger is earnestly hoping that he has not broken any of Ore gon's game laws. While trapping for chipmunks, recently, he caught what was probably a member of the llxard family, but would more easily des cribed as a speckled beauty trout, up on legs. coming up from Scott Mills. UNCLAIMED HORSE I A dead horse ow the Rusch dock was the cause of considerable trouble here the first of the week a no one would claim the animal and Mr. Dutch wanted It removed and could not do so until the owner was found. The animal was tied to the dock last Friday for shipment to Portland, but when the boat arrived it was over loaded and the animal was loft lied at the dock. He became entangled In the rope and fell, breaking hi neck. Williams and Broom from near Corvallls were in Elk Prairie re cently looking for a homestead or a relinquishment. Kirk Hertzel and Bullock were guests of D. B. Gray and family a few days ago. Mr. Hertzel Has . property in this neighborhood, and talks of re turning to the farm. , His family is in Portland at present. Gus Collins, who lived on the Shandy place for two years, returned to this neighborhood for a brief visit. Since this Is a neighborhood) of homesteaders what one does, is done by all. Some one started' digging springs, then all developed springs. A preference being 'shown for those which will flow to the house and barn, Miss Burdett, and Messers. Snyder and son each have located this variety. Chas. Tldd, formerly of Oregon City, has located a fine spring that he ex pects to build bis permanent home near. In fact a well would seem like a disgrace in this land of springs and streams. Miss Burdett is the most recent to complete her homestead cabin, while Mr. Snyder has already begun a more permlnont domicile. Mr. Mack was through this neigh borhood looking for light work on a dairy ranch. Ho waa on his way over to Crooked Finger but decided to go around by way of Scotts Mill. Mr. Mack said pat he had been doing mis sionary work and distributing bibles on his way. He worked for a time on Ernest Russet's Goat ranch, in the Forks of the Molalla. Kirk Heitzel was In this neighbor hod a few days ago, as he beard that there was to be a united effort to con nect the Molalla road with the one Monday evening, showing the ladles how to have tireless cookers and Ice less refrigerators. Mrs. M. C. Young returned Thurs day from Oregon City, where she at tended a meeting of the County Indus trial Club. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Rldder spent the week-end with relatives here. Mrs. J. Galbreath and Mrs. Howard visited relatives here during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Weir have been visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jones. Mr. Stringer spent Friday and Sat urday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Wood. Mrs. Aubrey Wood was presented with a beautiful water set, from the pupils of the school, on Friday, also with an exquisite bouquet of carna tions from the chairman of the school board, Mr. Weldermann. THE HORSE'S COMPLAINT . Well, what do you think? When we come to Oregon City we can't get a drink. The fountains for people are running high, But we poor horses have to go dry. We hear so much from the Oregon Drys ' It causes great tears to well from our eyes. And now, what do you know, Even the Methodist fountain has ceas ed to flow. And so good people on Main street we think It will be a great kindness to give us a drink. Ye mayor and council please dig up some chink And give us poor horses some water to drink. YOUTH ARRAIGNED.
