EAGLE CREEK, Ore.. Dec. 20.
Last Wednesday a Red Cross auxiliary
was organized at Eagle Creek. The
organization was in charge of Mrs.
J. G. Gilllngham, field secretary of
the Portland chapter of Red Cross.
There were twenty members enrolled
and the officers elected were: Gus
Burnett, chairman; Mrs. Homer Glo
ver, vice-chairman; Miss Jennie Smith,
secretary; Mrs. Roy Meyers, treasurer
and Mrs. Emma Thomas, military
to belong to the Benedict Fathers at
Mt. Angel. The new rock is used as
an insulator, and fence posts can be
sawed from it, while If ground and
mixed with Portland cement. It makes
the latter both better and cheaper, it
is said.
Mr. Hammer, who died recently at
Scott's Mills, had a company with his
son, Eli, perfected and patented a
stump puller. While the machine can
use horse power, the hand power has
been developed to such an extent that
