land. Many came up from Portland,
and returned on tho special car. The
ladles who had charge of the brilliant
affair were Mrs. Clarence Karr. Mrs.
Charles Spencer, Mrs. Lake May. Mra.
Joseph Davenport, Mrs. Al Cannon,
Mrs. Kdgnr Waldron, Mrs. 8. fl. Walk
er. Mra. Jarre!!. The decorations of
the hall were beautiful and artistic.
In the center of the room waa sus
pended a large wreath made of the
Oregon grape with decorations of red
Christmas bells, and festoons of the
red, green and white crepe paper, the
colors of the order, added to the
decorations. Indian baskets were al
so used In profusion among the decor

J. HJelsliig, a Norwegian who owns
property in Gladstone, and who has
neon missing for several weeks, wm
found Saturday morning In the Wil
lamette Hotel, where he has been 111.
Ills condition Is very favorable and he
will be out In a few days.
Mr. Hjolslng came here two months
ago and on October IB purchased
three acres at Gladstone from Attor
ney H. K, Cross, tho consideration
being $900. HJelsing had money and
paid cash for the property and made
a deposit of his funds In the Hank of
Oregon City. He Is about 65 years
of age and a bachelor, and he started
to build a cottage on his lots. Work
ing dally, he attracted tho attention
of his neighbors, tho Andersons, un
til one morning, about four weeks ago,
Mrs, Anderson noticed that the work
on the house had ceased. She In
formed William Hammond, who Is
associated with Mr. Cross, and Mr.
Hammond made some Investigations,
finding that HJelsing had left his
tools under a door In the yard, as
though he Intended to return very
soon. Mr. Cross Inquired at many
places In Oregon Clly for whorea
limits of the missing man, but could
secure no Information, and he com
menced to entertain fears for the
safety of HJelsing, which culminated
In that thought that the body of the
man found las! Salurday near Milwau
kee might bo HJelsing. ' Saturday
morning, however, Mr. CroHS resumed
his Investigations and found HJelsing
at the Willamette Hotel.
