Tho Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company yesterday established a now service botwtvn Oregon ctty and Port land, localizing the system to tho ex tent that subscribers may obtain the desired number In either town by simply notifying the central operator and holding the receiver until connec tion is made with the party wanted. The former custom has been to call central and ask for lens distance and then hang up the r-voivor until the long distance operator communicates with the neighboring city. This some times requires a considerable period but hereafter when a man In Oregon City .wants a number In Portland he asks for It in exactly the same manner as though he wanted a connection In his own town. The rate Is 10 cents for the first two minutes and five cents for each additional minute. The former rate was Irt cents for the first. and five conts for each addition; minute. The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company has constructed five loops to Portland so that every operator on the local sw itchboard will have a line to the metropolis. These loops run ditvccly into tho local board at Port land. The new line that has just been completed from Portland through Oregon City to Salem Is one of the heaviest on the Pacific Coast, and fol lows a nevr route running along the river and through Gladstone. And as fast as possible I will make a flat cash price, that will equal 5 per cent off of regular prices where the credit system is still in use and on some articles more than 5 per cent off. I wish to say that I am in no way connected with any agreement fifade by the Oregon City Merchants in "Curtail lng Credit" and my name was used without authority from me. On the pledge or agreement I be lieve the only way is the CASH PLAN then it treatB all customers alike and you get value for your money. I am completing arrangements whereby I can handle all kinds of Country Produce at a flat cash price and pay as near Portland prices as will let me ship same and come out even. My cash plan will give me time to cater to the trade and study their needs, and to pick up bargains when opportunity of fers. While under Credit System we could LOOK AT Bargains and WISH we had the money to buy them, and give the customer a bargain and make a profit too. A Cash Store can be UP TO DATE while the Credit Store don't order until the last minute and has to take what is left after the Cash man has had his pick and his goods ir and on display.
