Peril of the Cellar.
Underground cellsrs ought to be
done away with. They are relics of
a dark ago. Moro sickness originates
In them, physicians claim than any
where else about the place. They can
not bo kept In sanitary condition
while vegetables are constantly de
caying there. The place for a cellar
Is ubovc ground and outside the dwell
ing. I-ave the basement for the fur
nace, the coal bin nnd a genral stoic
room. An above-ground cellar Is
more convenient In every way. your
vegetables can be stored with less tha
half the labor when you do not have
to go up and down" stairs with them,
You can keep an above-ground cellar
clean with but little trouble, whllo tho
underground 0110 will be neglected
nine times out of ten and allowed to
become a source of Infection to the
family above It. I hope the owners of
homes In tho country will give some
earnest thought to this matter and de
cide to build an above-ground cellar
the coming Spring.
Ventilation and temperature are
much more controllable In such a
building than In the old-fashioned un
derground cellar, which obliges tho
housewife to use up bo much strength
In climbing statlrs.- Locate It con
venient to the kitchen with which It
can bo connected In Winter by an In
closed passageway.
