GRAND OPERA IN PORTLAND.
Savage's Celebrated Company Coming
With 50-Piece Orchestra. -
The most important society and
operatic event in the musical history
of Portland will be the Grand Opera
Festival of three days, beginning Mon
day, February 5, when Mr. Henry W.
Savage's celebrated English Grand
Opera Company and orchestra of fifty
musicians will be heard for four per
formances. ' .
Opera lovers in Portland and sur
rounding citties have been looking
forward to this rare occasion ever
since the first . announcement that
Manager Savage would send this
splendid organization to the North
west. The company is famous as the
largest and most expensive aggrega
tion of artists, musicians and produc
tion that has ever attempted a com
plete cross-continent tour.. The sing
ing forces alone number . over 150
people. To convey the snormous
equipment of scenery, costumes, me
chanical and electrical - effects, a
special Grand Opera train of 14
coaches and 70-foot baggage cars is
required.
, The company itself is a combina
tion of Mr. Savage's- "Parsifal" and
.English Opera companies of last sea-1
son, there being over a score of prima
donnas, tenors, baritones and bassos
in addition to the great singing chorus
of nearly 100 voices.
The performances will be arranged
as follows:
Monday evening, February 5, "Tan-h&euser."
Tuesday evening, February 6, "La
Boheme."
Wednesday matinee, February 7,
"Lohengrin."
Wednesday evening February 7,
"Faust." . x
The scale of. prices for reserved
seats on the Northwestern tour will
range from $1 to $3.
Season tickets for all performances
will be placed on sale at the theatre
Monday, January, 29, permitting pat
rons to select their seats for. all four
performances in advance of the regu
lar sale that opens on Thursday. Feb
ruary 1.
Mail and out-of-town orders con
taining remittances payable to Mr. W.
T. Pangle will be filled as near as
possible to location desired.
NOTICE TO FISHERMEN.
I am instructed by the Master Fish
Warden to notify Clackamas and Wil
lamette River Fishermen that, with
few exceptions, all your licenses ex
pired December 31, 1905, and that It
is expected of me to prosecute any
and all persons fishing or operating a
gill net or a set net without a valid
license to do so after that date.
Gill net fee, $5.00; set net fee, $2.50
each. All licenses issued after this
date will be good until March 31,
1907.

Abernethy Grange No. 346 held its
