The heavy Eastern mail usually conies
Sunday evening on the south bound
overland for Oregon City, and Postmas
ter Green has been going to the train and
carrying the mail bag himself to the of
fice, and with the aid of his assistants,
oistributed the mail that night in
order that ttie public could get their mail
at an early hour in the morning. An
arrangement has now been perfected
whereby the messenger delivers the
mail at the postoflice from the train,
which very ninch facilitates matters.
Postmaster Green does not allow any
mail to accumulate in the office on ac
count of it not being distributed.
The attendance from Oregon City at
the merchant's picnic was not so large
as was expected, on account of the dis
crimination in favor of Portland people
in the matter of rates, although it esti

attendance. The Oregon City baseball
team bested the Portlands in a score of
five to one. The members of the Ore
gon City team were: George Fenni
niore, J. McMannus, Clarence Fields,
J. E. Hedges, Charles Pope, J. E. Rice,
William Khoades, H. L. Holman and
II. K, Jones.

out to meet the stage. Selecting a fav

w'th passengers, the robbers came on
the scene m all the paraphernalia of
their office : the driver reigned up his
team, and the passengers began shelling
out, and then the photographer got in
his work and immortalized the scene.
