limit of its present facilities is pipe
twenty-four inches in diameter. It is
proponed to arrange for liiuklng pipe four
feet in diameter. This will involve
milking another pit and putting in an
other crime and w ill about double the
cusliug fttpiicity of the works. The
crane worked at present lifts ten tons.
It is not yet known' whether the cupola
eupucitv of the pipe works will he in
creased or nut. If not tho volume of
t tie total output will not be Increased
but only the site of some of tho pipes.
The present ciiiln melts the pig iron
only fust enough for Ihe present canting
fucilities.

in western Oregon and wostern Wash
ington luat Sunday afternoon a little be
fore 3 :00 o'clock. In Oregon City there
wore two perceptible shocks about ten
seconds apart. The first was light but
siifllcient to make most buildings
tremble and windows rattle, The one
following was comparatively violent
though not of suflicient force to do any
particular damage. In Portland and
in the cities or Puget sound the shock
was very appreciable. On Tuesday
there was a violent seismic disturb
ance . in northern California and in
several of the aiiiull towns considerable
damage to buildings was reported.

which calls for the filing of the certificate

thirty days prior to tho election; also
bis acceptance or declination of the
nomination. This can be done by mail,
but must be attended to by that time

being placed on the ticket.

The Census Ollice has issued the fol
lowing statistics of cereal production
in Oregon for the census year ending

In IsHt) there were grown in Oregon
M3, 270 acres of w heat, w hi-h prtsluceil
t),:tin,2:'4 biisbels, being at the rate of
111. HI bushels per acre, as against 4 IS
077 acres and 7,4NU,(IIU bushela at the
cenaua of 1KN0, the yield per acre in 1879
being exactly the sunie as In 1H8. The
increase In the area in wheat over 1879
was 10H.ll.'! acres, and in yield 1,818,214
bushels or 24 31 per cent In each case.
The iiuinlier of acres of oata grown in
lKhil waa 218,7;ii, which produced 6,948,-
M4 huahels, being at the rale of 27.20
hiialiels er acre as against l.r!.624 acres
snd 4,Xhft,uVi0 bushels by the census of
18H), The yield per acre in 1879 was
28.112 bushels. The Increase in the acre'
age of outs over 1H79 was (17.112 or 44.21
per n ut and in yield l,M;2,m4 bushels
