OREGON CITY COURIERFRIDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1908 dt NEWS "OF THE COUNTY EAGLE CREEK. Quite a number of young folks from this neiehborhood attended the mas querade at Estacada on Thanksgiving eve. They reported a fine time. Most all the boys were dressed hs ulowns and the girls represented little girls in blue. Mr. John Githens has rented Fred Ely'i largo farm and intends to move next week. Kred Ely has moved to Barton to carry the mail. Frank Douty is going to build s scow on the Clackamas river and is aoina in the duck business. He also took the prize for being the best "merry widow." Grover Jadd and wife had to leave the dunce at Estacada early and miss;d the bie turkey supper. Eru Douglas wou two ton-poand ducks for his Thanksgiving supper. Ed Douglas bus started to school again,. He is preparing ior college, Ward Donclas is doina a bie bum ress witli his stage between Eagle Greek and Logan. An entertainment and dance will be given at the Eagle Creek Grange Hall the 12th of December. DAMASCUS. Herman Johnson moved into liis new house id time to eat the 'inanus giving dinner there. Mr. and Mrs. Shorman and children of ..Washington have been visiting Mrs. Weilman this week. Mrs. Frank Metzger and children of Gresham visited Mrs. Lingle last Tuesday. Mr. Newton and wife have sold their farm here and have moved to Dayton, Oregon. After spending the Thanksgiving vacation with hur parents, Miss Nellie Elliott returned to Corvallis Sunday. Versy and Gladys Kunick, who have been visiUnc their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Vinsaut, re turned to their homo in Portland Sun day. Sinco a photographer has beon here, the teacher and pupils of sohool dis trict No. 2'i have decided that they are not very good looking. MARKS PRAIRIE. The cold wave hit our people pretty hard, and wo are all waiting lor a good Wobfoot rain. The three weddiugi we said would come off in our vicinity have oc curred. They were as follows: Frank Oglesby and Zettie Hardisty; Ray Fish and Laura Kooher, Percy Oottoll and Grace Wiegand. Over forty of the friends of Frank Oalosby tendered him a big charivari. They were given a Ilrnt-olasB treat aud all went homo happy. Mrs. Henry Kraus visited Mrs. Yeua Cnmpnti Sunday. John Wells ami family were callers at. Oglesby's Sunday. Avon Jesse was home from Forest Grovo to spend Thanksgiving. He returned to school Sunday. Allen Gribhle is working for G. W. Scramlin as chief lineman. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Deck of Sc.hu bol viBited the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Countryman, last Monday. Mr. Stuart left for Portland last week. Mr. Dauielsou, our merchant, was at Oregon City to get a load of store supplies last Friday. Ho returned Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Liviugstouo, who have beu visiting with the latter's parents, left for Mulino liiht week. Miss E. L. Applegale was visiting with Miss Fruduliorg Hult last Sun day. A special school meeting vsas held at the Ooliou school house and a three mill tux was voted. Mr. Anderson was o lent nil director in the place of Mr. Countryman. Some of the young folks of Collou attended tho TliimliHgiving party at Mr. Valine's in Elwood last Thursday evening. Quite a crowd Riithorod and a flue timo was reported. Mr. Anderson wan at Oregon City lust week. Jake Sehiowo, who has boon away to Washington and Idaho, returned home last Thursday. Mr. IJonnoy was busy butchering hogs and a hoof hist week. Artolph Freeman of Ehvood was a viNitor at Uolton last Sunday. Mr. MoUoiinell is helping Mr. Bou ncy to do some slashing. W. Uorbott and Lew Hubbard took some beef cattle to town last week. G. Hohiowo of Mulino left last Wednesday to attend school at Col fax, Washington. U. Stroingrenu butchered several hogs last Monday and supplied tho neighbors with meat. Mr. Swansou was busily engaged in hauling hay last week. A big supply of fruit trees from tho Albany nursery arrived hern last week, Most of them are for the now settlers. J. PuU and wife woro at Oregon City Saturday. Propii'ations are being made to hold a Christinas tree at tho Swedish church. CLEAR CRKEIv. Jas. Sevier bus exchanged his shin gle mill tor a saw mill, and expects to have it in running order in a few days. The mill will be locaieil on Ed Fiction's property on the Hpringwuler road. W. H. Mattoon lias returned fiotu Cascade Locks, as he found his grand child much improved and soemingly out of danger. K. Kerr has moved from Logan to his place in Redhind. His family of six children are greatly welcomed by the new Fir Grovo school district. Mrs. Carrie Forrel of Portland spout Thanksgiving with her parents, Sir. und Mrs. F. Wilcox. Willie Stone, who is attending Willamette University, was at home last week. 11. M. Tracy is laid up temporarily with a lame foot, M'S. A. O. HollingBworth spent several days this week visiting her sister at Sellwood. Tho school census tor the fir Grove school district gives a total of 43 of school age, 85 of whom are enrolled. Thanksgiving was very quiet in Dover. Very few observed the day. George Ki'zmiller has stopped get ting out wood till prices get a little bettor. Josoph De Shazer and J. W. Exon attended church dedication and quar terly meeting at Oherryville on Thanksgiving day. The prosects are quite encouraging for Dover to get rural mail delivery in the near future. Next thing, the telephone. GARFIELD. Miss Opal Hunt is visiting Mrs. Mary Peterson of Mt. Tabor. Ed Mullen spent Thanksgiving at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. An ders. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Davis spent Thanksgiving with the latter's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Holder. The Garfield Grange tnet last Sat urday with a largo attendance. A chicken dinner was served ami every body went homo satisfied. W. W. Porter ate Thanksgiving din ner with Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Hunt. Weather Is fair at the present writ ing. The plank road south of Clarkes is now completed. Mr. and Mrs. E. Graves of Kelso have been visiting the latters' pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Larklns. Mr. Graves returned home Sunday, while Mrs. Graves will visit friends in Clarkes for a few weeks. The Sunday School of Clarkes M. E. church has decided to hold a Christmas festival. Ed. Hettman has built a new work shop, and there Is where he expects to spend the rainy days this winter. Russellville, Again, we try to write something for the people who read tho Courier. The weather Is very nice, though rather cold at night ami warm and clear In the daytime. Tho people are doing all kinds of work. The Courier correspondent has been away. He has been where the altitude was 2800 feet above sea lev el. All the people were very gener ous and kind hearted. Ho was Invited to many fine dinners, as good as any person could wish, commencing with Messrs. Carlton and Rosenkranz of I'ortlaud. Ho had a half day's ride with Mr. Carlton on street cars; also a half day's rldo in an automobile with Mr. Rosonkranz. Next was .lames Worsham of Malhuer, who had as fine a dinner as one could wish for. ninner with Claud Wor sham followed this, and was followed in turn by dinner with Mrs. Florence Woodcock and Thomas Worsham and wife. Tho latter Is also a skillful cook and tho dinner was delicious. Next dinner was with Dudley Wor sham, and It was an honor to the City of Malhuer. Our next dinner was with Jas. Marfltty, formerly of the Willamette valley. He has plen ty of this world's good things. The correspondent made his headquarters with Uncle Bob Worsham and Aunt Lucy, his wife. They have a model home. Highland. Fred Hettman Is hauling lumber for his new house. Our road supervisor, Mr. Scrlbner, Is busy working on the roads. Chas. Robeson and wife of Oregon City were visiting relatives in High land last Sunday. A protracted meeting Is being held at the Highland Baptist church by two ladles. W. B. Fairfowell was seen last Sun day driving a bran new team. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kirk, Nov. 28, a 10-lb. baby boy. All are doing fine. Geo. Ruthford has rented the Mc Cherry, farm. Dinner was served, after the morning sermon, then after a short song service three beautiful quilts were sold to the highest bid der. Each brought five dollars. Frank Melton of Gladstone visited his parents one day last week, re turning the same day, as he Is busy with his music pupils. J. H. Quinn and son have the wood saw this week. Rev. Quinn will preach at the Rus sellville school house next Sunday, December 6. Last week people were busy but chering turkeys; this week they've changed it to butchering hogs. The foggy weather Is bringing on the grippe. We would prefer a good rain to this plague. Dodge. The entertainment at Dodge Satur day evening was attended by a large crowd, who were well pleased with the program. There was a wedding at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. Howard of Dodge, Sunday. Miss May Bell Howard and Ed. Strunk, of Garfield, were the con tracting parties. There were twenty two present at the wedding. After the ceremony was over, dinner was served, with lots of good things. The bride received a great many presents that will help in housekeeping. Miss Myrtle Park of Dodge has gone to Welches district to commence her school, which starts December 1. Miss Park has the promise of a six months' term, with assurance of a three months' term. She will get $40 per month. F. Dibble, the Meadowbrook school teacher, was a visitor In Dodee Sat urday. He was in Sprlngwater get ting some dental work done. The shooting match given by May fleld Bros., Nov. 25, was reported as a grand success, there being a large crowd and all more than pleased with what they won. Barlow. Mayor Tull Is busy cleaning up his hop yard for a big crop next year. The mayor thinks twenty cents a pound Is a sure thing for 1909 hops. C. Slatanger is busy grubbing stumps on his farm. Mr. Slatanger will have one of the finest farms in Clackamas County if he keeps on Im proving his place. The worltmen have completed Mrs. M. W. Sheppard's residence, and It Is a very attractive home. Zimmerman, the road boss in this district, has a force of men re pairing the old wagon bridge that crosses the Molalla river north of town. The bridge has been in use 32 years, and perhaps it will last a few years more. Professor Carlton, the great wonder-worker, gave a refined marvel en tertainment at Columbia Hall Novem ber 28. H. Hansen was in Oregon City Wed nesday.
