OREGON GITY COURIER SUPPLEMENT OREGON CITY, OREGON, FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 1908 MILL OFFICES LOCATED HERE HAWLEY PULP & PAPER COM PANY TO MAKE THIS CITY ITS HEADQUARTERS. START TO BUILD SOON Mr. Hawley Offers to Exchange Prop erty With City Water Commission He Will Utilize Present Build- Ings of Flouring Mills. The main office of the Hawley Pulp ' & Paper Company will be located in Oregon City. This is the statement Isaued in a most positive manner by V. P. Hawley, president and general manager of the new concern. He says that he may have a branch office in Portland, but the principal office of the company will be at the mills, which will be located in South Ore gon City. Mr. Hawley has made a careful ex amination of the buildings acquired by the company and declares that he can utilize the main building of the Imperial Flouring Mills on t'e weat side-of the street as a machine room with slight alteration, and that there is room there for three ma chines. The warehouse on the east side of the street will be used for a digestor room. The building is ex ceedingly well constructed, and ho solid is its nature that little change will be required. Mr. Htwley expects to commence work on (he new paper mills In a few weeks. There will be a new pulp mill constructed on the site of old Station A bordering the east side of Willamette Falls. There is prospect of a change in the location of the city water pumping station, through the advent of the mw paper company. Mr. Hawley has nade a tentative proposition to the wafer commission tor an exchange of sites, in order that he may utilize the present site of the pumping station. This site is under a lease that has yet 13 years to run. Mr Hawley pro poses to give the commission a piece of property 30 feet In depth, with a frontage of 100 feet, just north of the warehouse on the east side 'of the street for the pumping station, with adequate room for an auxiliary steam plant, and he wants to use the re mainder of the property running back to the railroad track, which would give him a piece about 70x100 feet. He controls a strip about 30x100 feet just north of the warehouse and ad joining the present location of the filtration plant. He also owns two lots, with a frontage of about 30 feet just south of the Armory building, on which is now located a feed stable. Pie proposes to give this tract for the site of the filtering plant, and says that the water could easily be piped from the pumping station. It is pro posed to place the water wheels under the pumping station, below the sur face level of the street. The water commission, consisting of Charles H. Caufield, J. E, Hedges and T. L. Charman, has Mr Hawley's proposl tion under consideration there. Mr. Gillett is doing the work Mrs. S. V.
