ROPES ON THEIR NECKS Incidentally Refers to Combin ation to Freak up New Co -operative Store. Oregon City, May 22. (Editor of The Courier.) Will Moyer, Haywood and Pettibono get a fair trial? What is the differnece between a judicial murder and an unlawful murder? Let's seo. In the first place we have the Citi zens' Alliance, organized to down all unions. The unions demanded the 8-hour law. The matter was referred to the people and carried by 46,000 majority in the state of Colorado. The legislature refused to ratify the will of the people; the unions struck; mar tial law was declared; legally elected officers were taken out; guns put in their faces; ropes around their necks and they were forced to resign; the union men gave up all their arms to the authorities through a ruse that it was all to keep down trouble. Then what did those desirable citi zens do after they had the miners dis armed and at their mercy? Deport them. Buckley Wells and others said "To hell with the constitution; down the law; give them post mortems." Looted the store of one man who gave the union men credit and deport ed him, (just what they would do with the co-operative store in Oregon City if they had matial law.) Went to a mine that the union men had staked out and were peacefully at work and fired into them, drove them out of their own property and deported them; also drove the men from another mine, where there was no strike, the union being satisfied with the owners' treatment. Blew up their own mine, dynamited the depot and tried to lay the blame at the door of the union. The 'morning after the de pot was blown up the union offered $5,000 reward, put blood hounds on the trail" and the tracked to a cabin where one of the employes of the Citi zens' Alliance stopped that night. Were there any arrests? Who? Could the union men have the Pinker ton thug arrested who did the job? No. Why? Because the law had been damned, the honest officers had been forced to resign, and anarchy reigned. Who were the anarchists? Who are the anarchists in Oregon City? The wage earners that started the Co operative store or ,the combination that Is trying to run them out. The above charge has been made, (except Oreiron City), and names given by d H. Shout and he dares the parties named to arrest him for libel. Can the men get a fair trial? No. Why? Because every lawful right asked by the defense has been denied. About one year ago a friend of mine said to me "The right to habeas cor pus has not been denied." The other day I met him and I said: "Say, Jim, what about the rights now?". "Well," he said, "I think it is all right in this particular case," as much as to say my bull gored your ox, hut when your bull gores my ox the de cision will be wrong. The prosecuting attorney in Idaho swore to a lie and acknowledged it. He knew Moyer and Haywood were not in Ida daho at the time of the murder, but but some one had to get them into Idpho. When it comes to a jury, men are asked their politics and now let me ask a question. If a socialist or union man would acquit, would a republican convict? We find also all jurors yet questioned have been Republicans, in the face of the fact that Ada County gave 500 majority against Gooding. Now, I don't claim a Socialist is any more honest than a Republican, neither are the Republicans more honest than Socialists. Who are the men back of the prosecution? The mine owners, hacked by James Mc Partland, Goodlngs and Borah. Who adjourned the jury at Boise? Why? Because it had Senator Borah Indited ad Gooding's name with others vas coming up. Who Is James McPartland? A Plnk erton. What Is his business? Put spies Into all business houses In op position to the mine owners. What is his incentive? Money. Who pays him? The mine owners. Does money influence courts, buy jurors, evidence, legislatures and the press? If so, who has the money? Now, in conclusion, who would take the evidence of McPartland and Or chard seriously? Would you (If you had been Orchard) left evidence of bombs and dynamite In your room after the murder, If you had not wanted to have been caught? May the Ixrd see that the truth will prevail and the murderer brought to justice. Again, do you think It right that no one but McPartland shall see Or chard? Not even Linn Jones of Clackamas County, a representative, would not be allowed to see him even If he did not want to Bpeak to him but Just to look at the brute. W. W. MEYERS. The battery will be es tablished at the same place this year. They can't keep up the continual strain. The back gives out It aches and pains; Urinary troubles set in. Don't wait longer take Doan's Kid ney Pills. ' - Mrs. A. Canavan of 733 Northup St., Portland, Oregon, says: "For two or three years, owing to kidney com plaint and backache, I was some days unable to attend to my household duties at all. What I did do was un der great strain and misery. When, owing to a weak, lame-and aching back, you are unable to sit, stand or lie when dizzy spells are common and you are annoyed with headache, you naturally think a good deal of the means at last employed which gave relief. I used Doan's Kidney Pills, taking them according to directions and found more relief from them than all other remedies I ever took put together. When In conversation with anyone annoyed with symptoms of kidney complaint, I never fail to get in a good word for Doan's Kidney Pills.' Plenty more proof like this from Oregon City people.
