The Maple Lane Sunday school is holding Its own very nicoly with Mr. Parker as superintendent. The M.' L. Sunday School's ice cream soniul was largely attended, singing and speaking and reading being the order of the evening. Wm. Beard and his son Lambert brought 49 gallons of huckleberries from Uald mountain". Three days picking but were gone 12 day". The Coopenbenner boys are working in the city carpentering for the last two weeks past. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Beard drove down to Sellwood Saturday to visit relatives. Some of our neighbors are going to have telephones put in their houses, mof t of the poles are already on the ground, John Gaffney and his father are clear ing land. John Darling Jr. and his two sisters and Frank Beard took a very pleasant drive op to Canhy last Sunday. Thev ate dinner on the banks of a small stream and after giving several toasts and giving the place a name drove to Mr. Commings, a college chum of Mr, Darling's, and certainly did justice to his watr melon patch. Fred Sharuble gave a free exhibition of hypnotism at a small gathering at Mr! Jackson's last Saturday evening. Mrs. Bland, of St. Paul, is visiting relatives in Oregon and California and was out to the Beard ranch Tuesday. Mrs. Bland is a sleter to Wm. Heard, and will leave for the east Saturday. Threshing will soon be over as it is going leal fast tliii year; being the grain is very dry this year and the crops are. turning out very short. We are sorry to say that Mr. 0. Klin smith 1b very sick. Cancer of stomach seems to be the ailment. Mr. Bob Ringo leaves for Eastern Oregon this week for the benefit of his health. Mr. Tallman'i house caught fire last Friday and but for the timely aid of II so far only a few deer reported killed, John Bagby and Jesse Oflield killed two large bucks one day hint week. The deer were together and were shot down within a few feet of each other. D. C. Bovles who is working in the Ogle Creek mines killed a bear lecently. The first one for him, Our blacksmith, P. M. Boyles, was kicked on hie bead by a boree that he was shoeing. He was not seriously injured but has not been able to do much work since then. He is expecting a blck smith from Portland to work for him. He is going to take a vacation for a while and will go to the mountains to get berries and take a hunt. Will also go hop picking when picking time ar rives. J. V. Harless has about finished his new bouse and has moved in. He has built quite a nice house which makes things look better at that end of town. Several Molalla people are preparing to go to the bop yards. W. A. Shaver is busi'y engaged in running his threshing ou fit. The run will be very short this season. The grain crop it the shortest in this section that has been known In years though some fields of fall grain average very well but there was on y a small acreage of fall grain sown last fall, owing to the lace dry weather farmers could not plow and prepare the ground for seeding. Katie Newbury is camping with her uncle and aunt up in the mountain east of Silverton. Mrs. M.J Ourrin, who sold her prop erty to Mr. Dixon, has moved to Seattle. Theodore Weed and wife have gone to Seattle. ' Mr. Wm. Edgecomb is quite sick. Dr. Strickland is in attendance. Mr. Stafford has gone to Mount Hood for huckleberries. F. A. Ely and wife and grandson, Harlas, are camping at Nye Creek, near Newport. J. M.
