Aumsville, a hamlet in a county south of us, sends its celery here to sell. Of fine growth it is, too, yellow and luxuri iant. Here is an opportuntity neg lected by our horticulturists. Farmers and shippers in different parts of the county are complaining of a scarcity of cars for - shipping purposes. It is said that it is almost impossible to get cars to transport the big crop of spuds. The two-year-old child of City Re corder B. C. Curry is sull'ering from a malignant attack of scarlet fever. The mother and child were visiting relatives in Portland when it was stricken. They are in Portland with relatives. J. F. Elliott, who recently located in this county, purchased this week what be believes to be one ol the best teams in the county. The team is a pair of heavy horses, both jet black and dead matches. He paid $350 for the outfit. The numerous holes in the Molalla road, than which there is none more imp rtant in the county, are the re ultof tbe strict economy the county board must practice on account of the f 144,000 gKepublican-party county in' debtednes. Canbv is to have two tnrkey shooting matches Thanksgiving, both of which promise to be very enjoyable and enter' tainine affairs. A larire number of tur keys will be raffled off in different ways and Canby will be a good place to go to get a Thanksgiving turkey. During the run of Ben-Hur in P9rt- land, the Southern Pacific and Northern Pacific RailroadB, the Oregon Naviga tion Company and the various steam boat lines entering the city, will make special rates for those who deBire to wit' ness, while the management of the Mar- quam Grand will pay special attention to all out of town mail orders. The total valuation of all taxable property in Clackamas county in the year 1903 is $9,407,877. Last-yearthe total valuation was $4,526,502. There are 81,481 acres of tillable land in the county and 523,173 acres of untillable land. There are 104 miles of telegraph and telephone lines, 26 miles of street railway bed, aud this does not include the new road up the Clackamas; 12,157 cattle, 13,508 sheep ana 2,903 hogs. Judge J. Hanna, of Boston, Mass., will deliver s lecture on Christian Sci ence in the Marquam Grand 1 Theatre Portland, Sunday, Nov. 15th. Doors open at 2 p. m. Lecture begins at 3 p. m. Tickets can be had at box office free of charge on Saturday afternoon, good un til 2:45 p. m. Sunday, when if seats not occupied, will be open to public. The C. N. Dancing Club will give an otlie" one of its very delightful dances next Saturday evening at Willamette Hall. Call for booklet. The heavy rains of last week caused a huge made embankment at Chas. Al bright's home to crumble away and fall into the river. .Misses Ina Craig and Medora Whitfield of Portland, were the guests of Misses Laura and Jennie Beattie, in this city this week. The funeral of Isaac N. Foster, a pio neer resident of Clackamas county, who died in Portland, Tuesday of last week, took place here Friday. The last letter from E. E. Charman states that he was on his way from Los Angeles to Phoenix, Arizona. His ap petite was good and health' every way considerably better than when "he left here. For about three years 210 cords of fir wood have been piled up along side of Molalla Avenue, half way between the head of Seventh street and John Ever bart's sWe. It is sti i that the Woolen Mill lately bought the woodpile. -Hon. Harley E. Stevens returned last week from his two week's sojourn in tbe city ot Han t rancisco. He bad a most enjoyable time in the city by the "Golden Gate" visiting friends, and taking in the sights of that truly mar velous city. Mitt Fairbrother, accompanied by his wife and two children, arrived on Sat urday from Bayard, Neb. They are the guests of A. P. Cannon, Mrs.' Fair- brother being bis sister. In the section of Nebraska whence they came irriga tion is necessary for growth of vegeta tion, and, in coutrast, this generously watered country seems to them the Land of Promise. For partic ulars inquire of E. G. Cau- field, assignee. An "Old Folks Concert" at the Con gregational church last Friday evening attracted a large number of Oregon City people, both old and young. The affair was a very pleasant one and was thor oughly enjoyed. The rendition of the different selections was all that could have been deBired and the concert was a success both from a social and literary standpoint. The church realized quite a tidy little sum from the proceeds. Enos Cahill's seedling is one of the new varieties of apples in this valley that should be assidulously propogated Dy chardistB. It is a waxen color, good size, good keeper, and of fine flavor, whether raw or cooked. Mr. Cahill will furnish grafts to those who desire to enrich them selves by the possession of this valuable variety, and that, too, without money or price. The seedling is Btrickly an Ore gon apple. Last week Bert Strickland returned from his summer's work, as packer for a surveying outfit, in the mountains of Idaho. He will probably return to take charge of a packtrain running between Pierce and the Clearwater, a distance of 30 miles. Every morning, he and bis helper will have the pleasure, if such it be, of fastening tbe packs on a couple of dozen horses with a double diamond hitch. The trail leads through valuable forest recently surveyed and, past min ing camps. Notwithstanding that the open season for catching mountain trout is at end numerous parties still are beating the waters of the Clackamas and other streams for the speckled beauties, and quite a few good catches have been made Bince the season ended. There is no law to keep one from fishing in tide water and the Willamette falls is tide water, but tbe Clackamas and other streams in the county are not in tide water and parties who fish there are li able to arrest und fine. M. M. Borkholder, of Macksbure, was in the city on Tuesday, on his way home from Portland, where lie had been at tending to some business matters. Mr, Borkholder has been a resident on Ore' gon for the past eleven years and has lived in Olackamas county all of that time. He has a wife and seven children and is only thirty-one years old, so President Koosevelt s rac suicide idea does not"touch him." Mr. Borkholder is a farmer and a rancher and has been fairly prosperous during the last few years as have been all of the farmers of the Willamette valley. He does not affiliate with any party but votes as be says for the bet man every time. The law authorizing the throwing in jail and fining of any one caught steal ing rides on trains, on complaints sworn to by officers of the road, is declared to be unconstitutional by District Attorney, Allen. In consequence of this decision all the hoboes who were doing time in the county jail, last week have been re V axed and have flitted. The heavy rains of last week flushed the streams entering the Willamette and caused a desided raise in the waters of that stream. All of the tributaries in the county, such as the M'olalla, Clear Ureek, Milk Creek, Clackamas and other streams were running bank full.
