The warm weather has hastened the ripen ing of grain and a (ew hinders and head ers have started in on the harvest. By the 23d the wheat harvest will be in full blast and in some sections nearly fin ished. Barley is being rapidly cut. The cereal urou as never better than it ia this year and a (eeling of prosperity pervades the (arming community. The hops are coming into bloom. Spraying for hop lice haa commenced ; the lice are ao (ew that some growers do not antici pate that spraying will be necessary. In eastern Oregon the mean tempera ture (or the week ranged (rom 00 to 07 degrees, being about the mean of the previous week and the normal. While the afternoon temperature has been high there has been no abnormal heat. A lew thunder showers prevailed, in some localities the rain being heavy; at Baker City 0 10 of an inch fell. The weather has been dry and warm; but it lias done little if any damagx to the cereal crop. Some fears wereexpressed that the warm period might shrivel the grain some, hut so (ar it has but little affected it. The cereal crop is reported (rom every county as being the best that they ever had ; the weather throughout the season has been very favorable to it. Grain is rapidly ripening an- h.tr, vesting will soon be in full operation. Barley ia now being cut and it is report ed aa being in first-class condition. Vol unteer wheat will be ready to harveat this week. The farmers are exercised relative to obtaining machinery extras for the same and labor to allow all the grain to be aecured.
