The teamsters' strike in Portland
is beginning to have its effect on
the business houses in St. Johns.
Tuesday some of the principal gro

possibility of delivery from whole

W. E. Whclun, a prominent citi
zen of Saginaw, Mich., and sister,
Mrs. Alice McKey, are cucsts at
the home of John N. Edlcfscu nt
present. Mr.'Whclau is the father
of Mrs. Edlefsen. The probabili
ties are that he will become a per
manent resident of St. Johns.

The jury iu the Dickey case ren
dered a verdict of guilty as charged
Wednesday night, but commended
him to the extreme leniency of the
court. The penalty for the offence
is from three to eighteen years in
the penitentiary. Dickey was fore
man of the Willamette Pulp & Pa
per company's log loading plant
here, and was the first of the al
leged rioters to be tried on the in
dictments by the grand jury. He
has a wife and three small children.
Sentence will not be Imposed for
ten days yet.
