There was one thing noticeable
at the graduating exercises Monday
evening and that was the good be
havior of the audience. It was
most orderly and quiet and the
majority of the guests were the
young people of the city. It speaks
well for St. Johns, and it was re
marked by Professor Curtis that he
had never seen a more orderly,
well-behaved audience on an occa
sion of this kind.

the fifty-one years spent iu Oregon

grow from a forest to a great city,
and it is with pride he refers to St.

part of that time.
Early Sunday morning there was
a frightful wreck at the Cazadero
power plant of the Portland Rail
way, Light and Power compauy.
One of the big water wheels rnu-
mug one of the generators rau
away because the governor regu
lating the flow of water on the
wheel refused to work aud the
water gate was permitted to open
wide. The generator ran so fast
that it flew to pieces. A hunk of
casting struck the governor of the
other big wheel breaking it and
the other gate flew open and that
generator also followed the first.
The total damage is estimated at
$100,000. There was no loss of
life, but the two operators there
had a narrow escape from the flying
metal. The building shows a
great pile of castings and twisted
wire as though the plant .had been
torn to pieces by some ' great ex
plosion.

Keep Bright and You
WILL KEEP BUSY
Electric Light is the magnet that draws trade. The
bright store is the "hypnotic eye" of business. People can

store than they can resist the clarion call of n brass baud.
Is your competitor with the Electrically illuminated show
windows, bright interior nud sparkling Electric Sign getting
nn advantage over you ? The moth never flutters around the
uulighted caudle! Up-to-date stores nowadays consider
shop-window lighting 11 necessity, whether they remain open
after dnrk or not. Competition forces modern methods.
A show window brilliantly illuminated with Electric
light will make many n sale "the night before." Electric
light compels attention, makes easy the examination of your
display, shows goods iu detail and fabrics iu their true colors.
Aud don't neglect the Electric Sign. It is soliciting
"tomorrow's" business every moment it is lighted burning
your name iu the public mind. It is a solicitor that never
