Miss Perkins, who has been in Woodburn for the past two months has returned home for the summer. Dr. Holland went to Hood River this week for a look around. We would not be surprised to hear that the good doctor had snapped up piece of good apple land there. He ! 1" ir i. .1 win iuqkc no misiaKc n lie uucs. George Campling and wife spent Saturday and Sunday with their daughter, Miss Stella, who is teaching school at Camas, Wash. They report a fine visit, good time, lovely weather and a great game of ball Sunday. Mrs. J. C. Luckey, who has been visiting Mrs. Bitgood the past five or six weeks returned to her home in Junction City, Ore., Thursday. Mrs. Luckey is a very dear friend of the Bitgoods, who have enjoyed her visit with them very much. D. C. Henry, principal of the Odcll school near Hood River, vis itcd at the home of D. Perkins, Sunday evening and Monday. As the school term is finished Mr, Henry will take up his studies at Monmouth again, after attending the S. S. convention at Forest Grove. J. B. Hall the whisker expert has returned from up the valley and opened a shop at 120 west Bur llnutoti street where he will be clad to serve his old patrons. Jim is a good one and can drive in your whiskers with case and facility without resortlnir to anesthetics or tying the victim in the chair. Mr. and Mrs. S. Copplc, father and mother of Mrs. D. R. Norton, v ere visitors in St. Johns Sunday. They arc old Hood River friends and vc hope to capture them for St. Johns some day as a number of their family arc living in Portland and St. Johns. They arc of the best of the earth, the kind we like to sec come to St. Johns to live. Frank Thorudvkc, high private in the rear rank ot the Owl Print- cry, the Home ot tne Astoria Lam er, was in the city biinuay slinking hands with old friends. Prank looks good. The close proximity to the big briny does not seem to roughen up the peachy complexion of his miinly phiz. That's all right, Prank, don't mention it. Come again. Burleigh Cash of Hood River was a visitor in the Review office Monday. Burleigh was oil his way to Forest Grove to attend the State Sunday School convention held there the first of the week, and could not pass his old tillicums without dropping in to sec them. 1 he latcnstniig is always out to the Hood Riveritcs. They all look good to us. B. F. Belicu is erecting a good seven-room house for M. L. Hoi brook in East St. Johns. It is a6x 28, two stories high with full con crete basement aud is being built from plans and specifications fur- uished by Mr. Belicu. Mr. Belicu is still working oil a o-rooin house 011 the Kast Side which will occupy his time for some two or three weeks yet. Mrs. IS. L. Sellars, sister of O. R. Downs, has been visiting him for the past three weeks. The brother aud sister had not met for 18 years and have had a delightful visit. Mrs. Sellar s home is at Sanatorium, Napa county, Califor nia, where she is a trained nurse. She has been making a tour of the coast aud stopped here to visit her brother and other friends 011 her return from the north. Our old friend Oscar Straiiahan, accompanied by his daughter-iu-law, Mrs. Bert Stranahau 0 Hood River, were callers at the Review office Wednesday. Mrs. Stranahau is a good friend of our compositor, Miss Heller. Both Mr. and Mrs. Stranahan report things lively and everything lovely in the Apple City. Big crop prospects, big building projects, big money in Hood River realty, in fact a big thing in a little valley is Hood River and her environments, aud we believe every word of it; but the climate of St. Johns has that of the apple country skinned to a frazzle, aud they think they have a corner on the climate up there, Weary Willie has returned. We were glad to see the genial phiz of the champion whisker specialist, Harry Mansfield at his old location on Jersey street Monday morning. Harry says St. Johns has grown a "heap," iu his estimation, anyway, since he went away. He misses the old goose pond on Tacoma street, but thinks that St. Johns is better than anything be saw while swinging round the circle. He says that Rawhide is not what it looks to be from this distance. He saw 15 unfortunates in the morgue the day be left, victims of pneu monia, which is killing men like sheep. He thinks they would have done well there if tbey could have found a location for a shop, but as they could not they came home by way of "Frisco" and Coos bay. Nothing looked so good to them as St. Johns and Adam Kaemlein will sooa be hose with their outfit. We are glad to welcome the boys home and hope tbey will be good, now, settle dowu and grow up with the country. THE BARGAIN COUNTER Lowest prices-on bed furnishings at Trail's.
