I he Portland Journal did the
handsome thing by St. Johns last
btinday by giving a neat, accurate
and up-to-date two-column write
tip of the city in its issue of that
date. 1 lie Journal has n large list
of .subscribers in St. Johns and
such treatment is calculated to
largely increase its list. The
people of St. Johns like fair play
and when a paper gives us what is
coming to us instead of knocking
ns the papers of Portland have too
often done, they will appreciate it.

Klsewhere iu this issue will be
found nu nmwnl from Mrs. Abigail
Scott Duimvny, president of the
state equal suffrage association, to
the voters of the state. Mrs. Dun
iway is a grand woman mid is milk
ing the fight of her life this year
for critinl till (Truce in Oregon.
There are few indeed who would
not be willing to grant the tax
paying woman equal suffrage, for
thnt embodies the principle which
severed the United States from the
mother country. There is not the
slightest reason under the sun to
deny any woman the same right ns
11 mail of like Intelligence mid abil
ity except the lingering sentiments
of semi-barbarism which if not in
words, in tleeds declare woman to
be nu inferior being. No greater
mistake can be made by a voter of
Oregon than to vote against wo-
lit M
man sun rage. 10 vote lor woman
suffrage means n vote for the pur
est, the brightest, the best of hu
manity to have nil equal right with
till men in the making of the laws
which govern us nil. Theicforc
when you come to the ballot box
in June tlo not fail to make an X
between number 31(1 and the word
yes" on your ballot mid help our
mothers, sisters, wives, sweethearts,
to n place of equality by our sitles.
No greater honor can man bestow
upon womankind than to cist a
vote to this end, mid really, 110
greater insult can he offer her than
to vote against the measure, lor it
classes her with idiots and convicts.
