Ward received news Wednesday of the death of her sister, Mrs. Alice McLcod at Green Bay, Wis. 011 the 14th. The ladies aid society of the M. E. church will give a dinner and siiper on election day. Location will be announced later. A medal contest will be held at the Baptist church on Tuesday evening, March 24. Admission free. Uverybody cordially invited. Ogden, St. Johns. D. E. Young of Klamath Falls, Ore., is in the city this reek the guest of his charming cousin, Mrs. F. W. Valentine, and has just about coaxed that genial pair to go to Klamath talis this summer. It will be all right if it is only for a visit, but if it is to stay, Mr. Young will not be so young as he used to be if their friends get hold of him. Last week the good people of Mount Scott came to St. Johns and put the beautiful cantata "Esther" on the stage in Bickuer's hall. This is one of the most beautiful cantatas we have ever heard and it was very well rendered under the circumstances. The facts were the troupe almost to u "man" was suffering from the effects of the grippe and the stage in the hall was not half large enough to prop erly present the entertainment. There were many good points of acting and despite the colds from which the singers were suffering, a very tair presentation was made. A very interesting meeting of St. Johns W. C. T. U. was held at the Baptist church last Monday after noon. Reports of the various de partments of work were eucourag- !!!.. . Mrs. Dalgletsh was then introduced and gave an interesting talk on soldier's and sailor's work. Mrs. Oalgleish spoke of the homeless sailor boy who conies into a city, the temptations he is surrounded with,, his hard life: telling the la dies of the many ways he can be helped and benefitted. A superin tendent was appointed for that department aud the work will be taken up. Taxpayers' Ticket. Tim citizens rallying under the banner of the "taxpayers" met Monday evening and nominated the following candidates for city offices for the coming year: J. V. Hendricks, mayor; A. M. Hsson, recorder; C. S. Thompson, treasurer; G, J. Perkins, attorney; C. J. Muck, C. I,. Johnson, Alex. Scales, aldermen at large; A. R. Jobes and G. I.. Jtyps, aldermen first ward; H. W. Jiouham and II. C. Hunter, aldermen second ward, A platform committee consisting of J. V, Hendricks, G. J. Perkins, II. C. Hunter and . C. Dey was named and an executive committee whose names are R.
