The completed cost of the road will be about $250,000 instead of 1227,000 as was at first estimated, teoause of the high cost of supplies. Of the $100,000 secured from the sale of bonds by the city, $94,500 sad been spent up to August 25 ac cording to a statement just made jublic by Recorder Eusto.n This roughly has been used for grading, fencing, securing right-of-way, buying culverts, ties and ridge materials. The steel and rolling stock is se cured on a lease from the main line roads and will be Included In the first mentioned figure. A detailed' statement of the nuan ces of the road will be published in an early Issue of the Journal. The flngerlings will arrive In Kedmond Saturday evening and he urges all sportsmen to assist him In the task of distributing the fish In the streams in the vicinity of I'rlne vtlle that night while It Is cool. A number of cars and trucks will be required for this work, and any one who can assist should notify Mr. floss, Mr. Peoples or Mr. Lakln. The development of the fish re sources of the community Is Just as Important in proportion as any other community work, and Just now should be attended to with will. SPECIAL DAYS ARE SET JORINIMATEfAIR The following special days have been set by the management of the Oregon Inter-8tate fair: Wodnes dsy. October 3, School Day (all school children admitted free on this day); Thursday, October 4, Crook and Wheeler County Day; Friday, October 5th, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties and Portland Day; and Saturday, October 6th, Esstern Oregon Day. The plans for the Fair are rapidly being put Into shape. Carpenters sre busy this week, building the new dairy barn, and have already made numerous changes around the grand stand and track, taking the hand stand from the grand stand and building 400 additional seats In the grand stand, to help accommodate the large crowds that will be here this year. Live stock is now coming to the grounds, and the management has the assurance that all the stock barns will be well filled. In addition to the barn a tent SO by 100 has been secured to help house the surplus stock. Splendid Judges have been secured In every department, and the Judg ing will be handled in a very satis factory manner. A now Judging ring. has been built and this will en- ! able the Judges to work In a more satisfactory manner. The big live stock parade will be held on Friday at 1:30 p. m. as In the past. As stated before, the racing pro gram will be the best ever witnessed on the local track. Other amuse ments and attractions have been se cured that will provide more amuse ment than ever before offered. MOM EX TO UK 'sTKU ; All Over the Age of Sixteen Are Re quested to Report All womun over the age of sixteen are requested to register at the City Hall between the hours of one and five Saturday afternoon, Sept. IB. The women's committee of the Oregon Council of Defense, through Us chairman, Mrs. Chas. H. Castner, of Hood River, has designated this as official registration day. It is voluntary and Is for the pur pose of the government knowing the women power of Oregon, should it be found necessary for the women of the country to be called upon to takfl the places of men who might be called upon to Join the colors. Government positions might also he filled with trained women. Cards have bean left at every home in the city and they are to he filled out and brought to the place of registration Saturday and the clerks there will assist In finishing them.
