Born, to Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Jones on Saturday last, a daughter. J. Alder Wise and family arrived the first of the week from Albany. He is living in the V. A. Booth residence. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Harris in this city Sunday, a daughter. Mrs. Harris was form erly Winnie Windom. Camp grounds are being pre pared by Geo. Summers on his property for accommodation tof tourist auto parties. Mrs. Jay H. Upton returned yes terday from Portland where she has been visiting relatives and friends for some time. Street decorations and extra street illumination will be put up on Monday next, for the big week that is to follow. Manager L. M. Simpson of the Deschutes Power company was in this city the last of the week from the Spokane office. Alex Tweedt and Elva Miller were married in this city Tuesday evening. Mr. Reid announces services at the regular hours at the Methodist church on Sunday. Grand Master Westabrook of the I. O. O. F. lodge of Oregon will be in Prineville on Tuesday evening of next week. All members are urged to attend. The best meal that has been en joyed by the Commerical Club for some time was served under the personal supervision of Mother Thompson at Hotel Oregon on Friday. An important meeting and a good meal at the Methodist church tomorrow. Come. More -than forty men attended the luncheon Friday at Hotel Ore gon. Much business of importance was discussed. Considerable time wa3 devoted to the discussion of final arrangements for he fair. Mr. Schee stated that more than 100 DeoDle would come to the fair from Portland. The meal was a good one. Tomorrow's luncheon will be at the Methodist church. The Rev. Geo. H. Ramsey has resigned the pastorate of the local Christian church, and will take his new position as pastor of the Bal lard church at Seattle as soon ae the change can be made and a new man secured f jr this church. The step is one decidedly in advance for Mr. Ramsey. His church is the second largest in Seattle and the salai y is a good one. . Because of the fact that neces sary papers tailed to arrive irom Denver, the immediate action in the railroad matter was delayed, and not taken up on Tuesday even ing as was hoped by the council. A meeting is called for Friday evening at which time it is hoped that all matters will be ready to Droceed. A delegation from this city head ed by the band will attend the Tumalo fair on Saturday. Last year this fair, was attended by a large number of Pineville cars, and the result was very beneficial as an advertisement for the Crook County Fair. The pilgrimage Sat urday will be in charge of a com mittee composed of H. G. Ken nard, J. W. Carlson and T. L. Ouinn. If you can go. notiiy one of these men. Chns P. Lambert was a business visitor the first of the week. Warren Yancey is driving one of R. P. Scheurer's Hudson cars. Mrs. I. Michel spent the week end with her son Arthur In 'Port land. Arthur is improving rapidly from his recent illness. G. M. Cornett and family and Mr. and Mrs. James Toney were called to Mitchell on Friday because of the death of Grandma Toney. Funeral services were held at Mitchell on Saturday. The Boy Scouts of Prineville will hold a special meeting, Tues day evening September 26. Elec tion of officers for the coming year and other special business will be attended tc. Mr. Ramsey who has been Scout Master has re signed, owing to his leaving, and Dr. Burdon has been appointed to succeed him. The Shumitt Club held its initial meeting at the home of Mrs. H. P. Belknap on Friday. Mrs. Duffy favored the club with one of her pleasing solos, "June Time," after which the club was entertained by interesting individual remi niscences of the summer. The Club adjourned to meet October 14th at the home of Mrs. John Wigle. "Doc" Hasket a laborer. 38 years of age, committed suicide in Bend at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning by shooting, himself in the head with a 32 caliber revolver. He was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the Deschutes hotel when the shot was fired, and although he lived several hours, he never re gained consciousness. An inquest was held yesterday. Powell Butte Notes Ora Foster has purchased a fine new "Red Rivsr Special" thresh ing machine and is prepared to make the run for the season at Powell Butte and vicinity. The start was made at "Bill" Bronw's place. Tie machine is doing good work and is well managed by ex perienced people. Jim Griffin is haDpy over the 'amount of rye he had from the thresher. Mr. Griffin had pur chased the number of sacks that he thought his rye would yield, as compared with former years, but was obliged to send in haste for two hundred additional sacks to hold his grain. Three headers are running in the Powell Butte country belonging resDectively to the following men: Henry Edwards and sons, E. A. Bussett and Geo. Hobbs, and Elliott and Spencer. George Shobert and sons have purchased a little "pepper box" thresher "bran new" and are pre pared to thresh their own grain hereafter. Mr. Shobert is a careful farmer and has a large crop.- C. M. Charlton has a fine field of Marquis wheat, expert grain men consider it the finest they have seen. Mr. Charlton and son, E. C. have also forty acres of barley that is the best in this part of the county. They expect to exhibit at the County Fair. Alfalfa Items. The Jolly Neighbors Club met with Mrs. Barber. The following officers were elected for a term of six months: Mrs. Ralph Smock, president; Mrs. Curt Muller, vice president; Mrs. Charles Pyatt, financial secretary. Since the ob ject of the club is sociability and the officers elected are very efficient a good time is assured us the coming winter.
