The reel on the McCormick binder can be adjusted very close to the guards, so that the operator can force short eraiuj or grain that is lodged aud tangled, on to the platform canvas. There is never any accumula tion of grain in front of the cutter bar. No matter how badly the graia is down, the McCormick binder picks it up and binds it all. As was predicted by Oregon re publicans, the choice of the nation al convention last Saturday in Chicago was Mr. Hughes for Presi dent. More speculation was indulged in . . i . . .i as to his running mate, nut, me selection of Mr. Fairbanks was considered satisfactory almost everywhere. This leaves the country in a more cheerful mood at least since the refusal of RooseveU to accept the nomination on a third ticket. It loaves a race between two clean able mm, with the result bound to be right. There is a great amount of jockeying about t3 get the progressive support, and it seems that while much of it will return to the republican party from whence it came, yet a notice able movement to the democratic standard bearer, Woodrow Wilson, is noticed. Mr. Wilson will be nominated at St. Louis during the week, the only j speculation being who will be, chosen as vice president on the! democratic ticket. While radical democrats will state freely that the country will on Novernber 7, go immediately to J the bow wows should Wilson be de-1 feated, and while the same and even stronger statements are com ing from the camps of radical' re publicans even at this early hour concerning the failure to elect Hughes on the same date, and pointing the great failure of Wilson's administration, condemn ing him for his Mexico po'icy, his European policy, his second I marriage and the mannerjn which he parts his hair, to say nothing of, the church to which he belongs, i and many like unimportant things, 1 the fact remains that the great, common people whtT have the votes! and will select the man know that ! both parties are largely telling j untruths for political effect. I f he voters know that Wilson : was elected four years ago by an , almost solid democratic vote to which was added a large republi-i can contingent. They also know J that they made no mistake at that-1 i time. A continuance of the present , administration may be the proper and oniy thing to do. This will be more apparent in November than it is now. 'The voters will tmake their choice at that time, and it will be right. On the other hand a change n.ay be the proper thing at that time. This is left entirely to the voters. For the next four months tie people will for the most part keep cool and keep busy. Politicians will fog about a lot, making state ments that are for the mostj part not provenj out by facts, and when November 7 arrives the matter will be settled by the elec tion of a good man, for there are but two to select from and they are both absolutely qualified to care for the office and the future of this land. s is 3bl 9so hotter Jiourf aedara THE GUARANTEED Floor AT YOUR DEALERS PRINEVILLE FLOUR MILLS w 9 1 1 m the smallest country sheet is us ing stories f local setting every few issues which emphasizes the fact that the' benefits are even greater than were predicted. If this is not sufficient to con vince anyone who should doubt the general benefits of this condition consult any business man anywhere. He will tell you that cash sales arc increasing, that charge sales are falling off, and that he is pleased with the present state of affairs. In the face of all these facts, the brewers are planning a campaign to get the people to vote a measure that will permit them to open their breweries and in effect pry off the lid to a considerable extent in the state. The answer from the friends of temperance is another measure that provides for absolute prohibits n in the state. In other words a measure that will prohibit the shipment of liquor into the state. Bear in mind that the second measure was prepared for the bal lot after the first was proposed. The Journal takes occasion to slate that it will unqualifidely sup port the last mentioned measure, and hopes to see an overwhelming vote for it at the November elec tion. As to the first, we will op pose, as ably as possible, this or any other measure that will have as a result the weakening of the prohibition law. Roosevelt refused The progressive nomination because his wife told him to. A man's wife is usually right. Just 20 days left before Chautau qua. Bought your tickets yet?
