THIS PAPER REPRESENTED FOR FOREIGN ADVERTISING BY THE GENERAL OFFICES NEW YORK AND CHICAGO BRANCHES IN ALL THE PRINCIPAL CITIES MAY 19. One week from tomorrow the primary election will be held. The registration of voters showed that less than seventy er cent of those -who are eligible actually regis tered. Under the new law however, voters can be registered on election day and in this way everyone has the right to vote. . The state and county matters are of such im portance that everyone should vote, and use care in selecting men who will be qualified, and who will ex ecute the will of the people in matters with which their respective offices are concerned. WESLEY O. SMITH. It is a fact to be regretted that there is a conteston for the office of representative from this district that makes the elimination of Wes ley 0. Smith of Klamath possible. The ability of Mr. Smth. his record 'and his connections make many important things possible for his district should he be elected, which election he deserves without question. Friends of the two candidates from this county may construe this utterance as adverse to their favor ite candidate, which it is not. It is merely to say that Mr. Smith is an able man, and should not be overlooked next week. As the race is going it seems quite possible that both Crook county men may be elected, and Klamath eliminated which of course would be unfair to that part cf the district. Replying to a letter asking for expression of stand in the matter which was mailed to all legislative candidates by the Anti-Saloon league, Denton G. Burdick said, "I favor the present dry law and if necessary would strengthen it." Vernon A. Forbes said, "1 oppose relaxation in this matter, and favor strengthening the law." Tomorrow night the C. H. S debating team contests' for the championship of the state at Eu gene. They have the weaker side of the question, and if they win, which we believe they will, it will be a victory against odds. Here's hoping. The office of Circuit Judge, for Crook and Jefferson Counties, was created in 1915, and T. E. J.Duffy, was appointed by Governor Withy combe to fill the position. Although Judge Duffy register? as a demo crat it may be noted, that his ap pointment was rnatie 'by a republi can governor, who among a great number of people regards such office as nonpartisan. Judge Duffy, en tered upon the discharge of the duties of such office, giving up his private practice of law, to devots all of his time to it, and it can be safely said that he has administeree such office fairly, impartially and in a business -like manner. It would therefore s eem no more than rightd in view of his record, that he be nominated and fleeted to succeed himself for a further term.
