A Pleasant Surprise Party.
A very pleanant surprise party

Tuesday evening at the home of
Mr. Joe Lister. Mrs. Lister and
Mrs. Brennan had planned a most
delightful evening of music and

Ladies' Annex Hold Meeting.
Tho Literary Department of the
Indies' Annex held its regular
meeting Monday evening.
Mrs. John Wigle reviewed "The
Return of Peter Grimm. " This is
one of the modern pluys that the
department is studying and the re
view was marked by such lucid por
trayul of both plot and spirit that
the comment of all present waa
"How I would like to see it played.
Next week Mrs. ti. N. Clifton will
review "Within the Law."
Presbyterian Supper a Success,
The supper given by the Presby
terian Ladies' Aid at the Oregon
Grill Tuesday evening was a splendid
success. The Indies served over 150
people and the young ladies sold
about tlO worth of candy. If the
supper had not been bo good and
ilie ladies so liberal in their serving
the young women with their tempt
ing wares would have had a better
opportunity to dispose of the
delicious home-made candy.

Open to Entry in Oregon
Washington, Dec. 3. Orders were
issued today by Secretary Lane
opening to homestead entry more
than 500,000 acres of Western public
lands which have been determined
to be non-irrigable. After January
11, 1915, the lands may be taken up
in tracts of 320 acres each under the
mm
enlarged homestead act.
More than 300,000 acres of the
property is in Central and Eastern
Oregon, in Wasco, Crook and Grant
counties. In Montana there are
about 100,000 acres, mostljr In
Chautou, Fergus and Custer coun
ties, and more than 160,000 acres in
New Mexico, in Guadalupe, Roose
velt and Chaves counties.
