Bend Hotel Man
in County Jail
W. D. Cursey, the defaulting
Bend hotel man, was brought to j
Prineville Sunday by Deputy chenff
Wenandy and placed in the county
jail. Cursey will have a prelim
inary hearing in a few days. The
following telegram from Bend gives
the details of the case:
Bend, Or., Sept. 8 In charge
of Deputy Sheriff J. H. Wenandy,
W. D. Cursey, defaulting hotel
keeper, arrived here last night
from Missoula, Mont., where he
was arrested Wednesday. Crook
county authoiities had been on
his trail for a week, and finally
' arrested him in the Montana
City when he was met at the
train by his wife. Deputy Sher
iff Wenandy was in Portland,
where he saw Mrs. Cursey.
When he learned that she was
leaving the city with a ticket for
Missoula, he wired the chief of
police there, and Cursey's arrest
followed.
Cursey and his wife came here
last fall, and this spring he
leased two hotels and undertook
to cut a wide swath. He ran
heavily into debt, it is said, and
about the middle of July left for
parts unknown. Before he did
this however, he is known to
have harrowed money from
several persons here, several
hundred dollars in all, and it is
also alleged that he cashed some
worthless checks. He is said to
have "stung" people of the town
substantiate it. We
number Is great. A pleasure to picK
from ueh opulence. The new fall assort
ment will give you pleasure.

Mrs. Cursey did not leave with
him, and she was arrested and
tried in justice court, charged
with obtaining money under false
pretenses on a mortgage. She
was acquitted as being an inno
cent party to the offense, and
then left town.
A telegram was received Fri
day by the mortgagee, who swore
to a warrant against Cursey,
from Mrs. Cursey, offering to
liquidate the debt on the install
ment plan, provided Cursey were
were given his liberty, but no at
tention was paid to the offer.

So calm are we wbco passion
