M. W. A. Band Celebrates Halloween Prineville L. & W. Co. Has New Owner Did the boys celebrate Hallo- ween: ies, ana in a manner which did credit to the occasion. Meeting at their regular head quarters it was dimcult for each member to recognize the other un der the guise of all kinds of "spooky" characters. When in readiness for the march, to their surDrtse a nan aozen or more "spooky" white sheet figures, head ed bv Mother W itch, appeared m their midst carrying torches and all manner of head lights. The word of forward march was sounded and the line of march was taken up by the witch with her broom and lantern (which she had previously "loaned") and was a sight to be hold, even on Hallowe'en. After Splaying at a number of places over town the witch headed due east. At the outskirts of town some Warm Springers were also cele brating and this was too enticing for two of the junior members and they deserted, later getting into grave trouble. Boys next time fol low the wisdom of Mother Witch. Still further on another deserter side stepped. Although his eyes were sharp on the lantern, yet the "barer" was too "spooky" for him yet later he learned the truth she was his better half. The Sunbon net Babe and the Pie-eating Kid were creditable characters in the line-up as was "The Doctor," the "Fire Laddie," "Alkali Ike" and others too numerous to mention. "Vote for Women" brought up the rear and displayed womanly ability. The march ended at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Powell and it took hard playing from the "bunch" to awaken them from their peaceful slumbers, but alas, success and Oh, those pumpkin The Prineville Light & Water Co. I has changed hands. George Jacobs of Portland is the new owner. De tails of the transfer have not yet been completed but will be when Mr. Gates arrives in Prineville. He is expected any day. The change in ownership will carry with it many improvements, both in service and plant. New! machinery and equipment will be put in right away. ' An engine of 150 h. p. will be installed here as an emergency unit for the new system. The new owner proposes to elec trify the entire valley. A line will be run up the McKay as far as the schoolhouse and up the Ochoco to the forks of Mill creek. The new service will be a great advantage to Prineville. No longer will we have to grope around the streets at night in utter darkness. It will mean much to the home in added conveniences and the lessen ing of labor. It means that the gas engines now doing duty about town will be thrown into the discard. Mr.' Jacobs has secured the con tract to furnish light and power for Redmond within the next sixty days. He has bought thirty miles of poles, his wire, cross-arms and transform ers engaged so that, barring un avoidable accidents, we will have a day and night service in Prineville by the first of the year. pies.
