Postmaster Ledford hn bought
the Ferguson property on Second
street. He will move in the first
of October. Dr. Clark will move
into the houne vacated by the post
master. Mr. John Bolter, who lias been
visiting friend and relatives in
the city, loft Tuesday for Sister to
spend a few days with her mother,
Mr. Frank liooth.
Mrs. F. K. Dudley of Florence,
S C, arrived in Prinevillo Mon
day on a visit to her sister, Mrs.
J. U. Iluner. She will be here a
month or six weeks.
Sontng, proprietor of the Dillon
Feed Yard, is advertising a big
auction sale on Saturday, Sept. 0.

Mr, l'rince Glaze, Mr. Jennie
l'ickett, Mis Vivian Hinkle and
Kates Short spent last Sunday at
the now railroad bridge near Hill
man. The Shumias will hold a busi

The rain Monday prevented the
Labor Day colebration in I'rine
ville as planned by the committee.
A big crowd turned out to the
band hoys dance in the evoning.
Mrs. Ada Wallace Unruh, Btate
president of the W. C. T. U. will
speak at the Presbyterian church
at 11 a. m.; 3 p. m. at the Union
church and a general rally at the
M. K. church at 7:30 p. m. Special
music.
Jesse Tetherow and Earl Forest
made a record run to Burns this
week. They left Prineville at 7:30
a. m. and got back Wednesday at
10 a. m. The mountain roads
were very muddy. There was no
rain at Burns.
J. W. Stephenson, formerly a
partner of Bakowski, the photog
rapher, is in Prinevillo this week
settling up the affairs of his friend.
The body of Bakowski has never
been found. Beyond doubt he
perished in Crater lake.
The fire department was called
out Tuesday to quench a fire in
the rear of C. W. Elkina' estab
lishment. A fire hose belonging
to the store was brought into play
and the fire was put out without
the assistance of the department.

Mr. Comb came in from Me

J. B. Neville, Jr. ha returned
from hi trip to Portland.
The infant child of C. I). Cal
breath died Tuesday night.
F. F. Smith and J. M. Lawrence

P. T. Ainge, representing the
Purcell Safe Co., is interviewing
our business men.
Mrs. Willis Stacks, of Lamon
tn, was a Prinevillo visitor the
latter part of tho week.
Mr. Fremont, wife of Architect
Fremont, who has been visiting
her hushBnd here for a week, will
return to l'ortland Saturday.

Col. C. K. S. Wood and Lute
Pease, the publicity man, passed
through Prineville the other day
on their way to Burns.
Mis Mary Townsend, who has
been visiting her uncle and aunt,
Dr. and Mrs. Kdwards, left for her
home in Portland this morning.
J. O. Alsbury, district deputy of
the M. W. of A., arrived in Prine
ville last Friday. He will initiate
a large class of members Monday
evening.

Miss Era Boldman arrived

Ed Parker came in from Bear
creek to be a witness in the des
ert land proof of Mrs. Ada B.
Miliican. Ed says he got a first
class hay crop this year and is
in fine shape to weather the com
ing wiutor.

Dr. Edwards, Steve Yancy and
Oliver Adams left yesterday af
ternoon by automobile for Black
Rock, about 150 miles distant, to
bring in Silas Adams, who has
had a recurrence of his stomach
trouble of last year and is re
ported seriously ill. The patient
is In one of the remotest spots in
the Cascades, and it may be Sat
urday before the party reaches
Prineville on the return trip.
Connty Supt. Ford got back the
first of the week from a visit to tbe
Vernon Hot Spring in the John
Day valley. He says he feel like
a boy again.
Miss Nora Richardson of Bend
ha been engaged to teach in the
I'rineville public schools the com
ing year and will have charge of
the third grade.
Tillman Keuter came to Prine
ville Tuesday for the purpose of
gathering sample specimens for ex
hibits for the Great Northern Bail
way. He reports fair crops in
his section but says the rabbits
are eating up large quantities of
wheat and potatoes.
L. F. Titus, a prominent farmer
of Powell Butte, thinks that tec
lion of Crook county, one of the
best in the state for wheat and
garden truck. He made a special
mention in a letter to the Journal
of his fine onions and excellent
sweet corn.
Perry Poindexter's bees ran
amuck Saturday morning, and
Perry was badly stung about the
face so that be was in bed all day
Then the bees attacked and
drove the children intothehouse,
scattered the chickens and sent
the dog and cats scurrying for
shelter. After this, having thor
oughly upset tbe ranch, the bees
returned to their usual avocation
of making honey, the crop of
which is . unusually heavy this
year.

The road work being done un
der tbe supervision of R.H. Bay-
ley in the canyon near David El
liott's place up Ochoco is a tri
umph of excellence. The grade
around the hill is almost as true
as a railroad grade, and the rains
of the past few days have done
much toward turning it into a
boulevard. This piece of road
is about finished, and the next
scene of Commissioner Bayley's
labors in tbe road-making line
will be near Paulina.
