Shot at O'Neil
at Noon Today
Deputy Sheriff Williams of Opal
City shot and killed a prisoner at
O'Neil today a little before the
noon hour. Sheriff Balfour, Cor
oner Hyde, Dr. Edwards and
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney
"tt'irtz left at once for the scene of
the shooting. We were not able
to learn the name of the man that
was killed. The deputy sheriff
was bringing him to Prineville
and when at O'Xeil the man made
a' break for liberty. The fellow
would not stop until brought down
with a bullet.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walker of
Klamath county were visiting Mr.
and Mrs. F. A. Campbell the first
of the week. Mr. Walker states
this country on an average is
ahead of Klamath.
The fruit crop was almost all
killed by the frost and cold
weather.
Harry Barnes returned from
Albany, where he spent a month
visiting relatives and friends.
Chas. Shepard and family are
again in their old position on the
Price ranch working for W. W.
Brown. Bobby.

The weather has been very dis
agreeable in this section of the
country the last month, there be
ing a mixture of rain, frost, ice
and snow,
John Pickett went to the desert
the first of the week to help herd
cattle from ranges that are ex
posed to the scab.
Fisher Logan came borne from
the round-up at Last Chance on
Monday with a nice bunch of
horses.
Elax Bushy, who has been
trapping in this country for sev
eral months, haB gone to Prineville.
He shipped a number of hides
which will bring him a nice eum
when sold.

Last Friday marked the close of
the Prineville public schools. The
afternoon was given to the gradu
ating exercises of the eighth grade.
This class consisted of eleven
students and was one of the two
classes in the state that can boast
of every member successfully pnss-j
ing the state examinations. This
class has the further distinction of
making the highest general aver
age of any in the state, viz ,
91 per cent.
The class address was given by
Mrs. It. E. dray and the diplomas
were presented by Principal
Meyers who complimented the
class on the excellent work they
had done throughout the year.
Prof. E. L. Coe, Mrs. Evelyn
Lane Walker and Miss Rosa B.
Parrott gave interesting talks to
the class. Every member of this
class expects to enter the high
school in September.
Principal Meyers hag taught
these pupils during the past year
and the excellent record is largely
due to his guidance and instruc

Warning to Saloon Men.
An ordinance passed by the
council of the city of Prineville makes
severe penalties for serving drinks to
minors and habitual drunkarks.
They must not be allowed to loiter
on the premises. The penalty for
selling liquors to minors Is a fine of
from 5 to 1100, or by Imprisonment
from two days to thirty, or by both
fine and Imprisonment.
In the case of habitual drunkards
the fine is from $50 to (100, and In
default of payment ot such fine shall
be Imprisoned In city Jail one day
for each $2 of such fine and costs,
not to exceed 30 days.
