building he said: "I think It is fine
in every respect, both in appearance
and arrangement. It is one of the
most convenient buildings in which I
have ever conducted business. No
where in the state In my opinion Is
there a better county court house and
it Is a great relief to hold court here

C C Hutchinson Is Dead.
C. C. Hutchinson, known as the
father of irrigation in the West, and the
originator of the reclamation work in
Crook county, died at his home in Port
land last Monday, aged 75 years. Death
was due to old age. Mr. Hutchison was
well known to many Crook county peo
ple. After selling his irrigation interests
at Bend he went into southeastern part
of the state and was one of the first to
interest the government in the possi
bilities of reclamation in that region.
The family of J. II. Reams has
removed to Shaniko to reside.
Last Friday evening the fifth (trade.
under the cbaperonage of their teacher,
Miss J essie V. Hartley, enjoyed a most
delightful outing in the form of a marsh
mallow roast which was held near the
eastern limits of the town.
The secretary of the interior has with
drawn from public entrv under the first
form of withdrawal of the reclamation
act, approximately 23,000 acres of land
in connection with the Crooked river
project in The Dalles land district. Any
tracts, title to which have passed out of
the United States, were excepted from
the order of withdrawal.
At the First Methodist church for
Sunday, May 10, the subject will be.
"What did Christ teach about the keep
ing of the Sabbath day?" The one for
8 p. m will be, "The hills from whence
cometh my help." Sunday school at 10
o'clock and Epworth League at 7 p. m.,
led by Gardner Perry. A welcome to
all. J. D. Lewellen, pastor.
Last week, sometime letwoeu
Monday ami Friday morning, a
party of unknown men, Mveunmblv
three, judging from the tracks, cut
and luutlluted about two miles of
fence surrounding some road land
which was leased by George Wiler
and Johu Pickett, and also about
three miles of fence surrounding a
section of road land leased by K
Booten and son. The wire was cut,
in some places, on ench side of the
post and agaiu lu the middle. In
other places the were was cut onlv
in the middle. Five or six wire gates
were cut up Into small pieces and
tossed aside. Iu some of the rough
est country a short string of fence
would not Ik? cut, but iu the main It
was pretty badly cut up.
This is only one of a series of deiv
redatlous of a like unture which have
been committed during the past few
years upon honest and law-abiding
citizens residing In that community.
No relief from these out mires has
yet been found for a definite clew Is
hard to find. It Is hoped, h owever,
that in th riwir fntnr, uiinietlit'itr
may le done to put an end to such
outrages.
