Miscreants Cutting Fences Near Pos C C Hutchinson Is Dead. C. C. Hutchinson, known as the father of irrigation in the West, and the originator of the reclamation work in Crook county, died at his home in Port land last Monday, aged 75 years. Death was due to old age. Mr. Hutchison was well known to many Crook county peo ple. After selling his irrigation interests at Bend he went into southeastern part of the state and was one of the first to interest the government in the possi bilities of reclamation in that region. The family of J. II. Reams has removed to Shaniko to reside. Last Friday evening the fifth (trade. under the cbaperonage of their teacher, Miss J essie V. Hartley, enjoyed a most delightful outing in the form of a marsh mallow roast which was held near the eastern limits of the town. The secretary of the interior has with drawn from public entrv under the first form of withdrawal of the reclamation act, approximately 23,000 acres of land in connection with the Crooked river project in The Dalles land district. Any tracts, title to which have passed out of the United States, were excepted from the order of withdrawal. At the First Methodist church for Sunday, May 10, the subject will be.
