The proposal to erect a new city
hall In PrlncTllle la now receiving
Borae consideration at tlie hands of
the council. While the matter has
not yet gone further than unofficial
discussion, the Idea seems to be In
favor with every member of the
CJUucil and the mayor. At the pres
ent time the city Is paying rent
enough to cover the interest of an In
Testraent of about tiOOO and the city
authorities are casting about for a
plan by which the town could errect
a building at a modest cost on their
property now occupied by the old
First National Bank building and
the city strong house.
The council held its regular monthly
meeting last Tuesday evening. Not
much of importance transpired, routine
business occupying the attention of the
meeting.
On roll call Mayor Stewart, Council
men Sbipp, Yancey, Cram and Adam
son were present. Councilman Lippman
arriving later, with Councilman Clifton
absent Recorder M. D. Powell was in
attendance.
The minutes of the last regular meet
ing and of the two special meetings at
the call of the mayor, at which M. 1.
Powell was elected recorder and M. R.
Elliott appointed to represent the city
in its case in the circuit court, were
read and approved.
W. H. Kinder appeared before the
meeting with the request for a right of
way for a water conduit across a street
for the nurpose of utilizing the waste
water from the water tank of the Prine
ville Light & Power Co. which was
granted, on the condition that the con
duit be buried where it crossed the
street.
The finance committee reported a
settlement with ex-Marshal J. H.
Crooks of a shortage of 114.60 as 'shown
by the report of Expert Max Crandall.
The money was paid nnder protest and
a record made to that effect.
The license for six months of Frank
E. Broeius for the operation of the mov
ing picture show, amounting to 40 was
reported paid.
Marshal Huston's report for the past
month showed that five arrests had been
made. Three of the persons arrested
had worked their fines on the streets,
one paid his fine and the other had
forfeited his bail.
The quarterly report of City Treasurer
J. W. Boone was read and placed on file.
The report showed receipts from all
souices from Jan. 1 to April 1 amount
ing to f 2096.64; warrants cancelled,
1700.44 ; 13 unpaid warranto, $285.21 ;
cash on hand, $110.90.
C. L. Shattuck reported that the new
fire hydrant had been installed on the
intersection of Nichol and 9th streets
and was ready for the acceptance of the
city. The counicl directed that Fire
Chief B. F. Johnson test the hydrant
for its efficiency and report to council.
The following bills were audited and
ordered paid :
Wade Huston, marshal's salary.. ..$50 00
" " care city water . 25 00

The matter of providing some secure
place for the keeping of the city's books
and records was diecutsed by the coun
cil. It was the general opinion that
some provinion should be made, but no
definite action was taken.
Wilford Bolknap, leader, Irene Barnes
and Agnes Elliott will defend the nega
tive.
The silver cup donated by C. I. Win
