This fair ia In every rwjw-ct characteristic of the people of the community in which it i held. It ia planned and executed on lines that dhow just what the jeo ple have accomplifbed in an agri cultural way ince the town wan started a few yeara ago. The ex hibita will testify to the industry of the people and show to visitor what can be done underirrigation. Blooded Block and fancy poultry, too, ia on exhibition aa the eople are alive to the advantage of good blood. The Redmond Towntdle Com pany waa organized in the spring 1!K)5 and lota were placed on the market in June or July of the came year. The plat of the town Bite was received by the county clerk for record on August 1, 1905, and waa approved by the county court on Auguat 7. Soonafter this the postoffice department established a postoflice and ap pointed Carl N. Ehret postmaster. In the fall of 1906, jut about a year after the town " waa ac knowledged aa such by the county court, the people of Redmond and vicinity took steps to hold a fair This waa no email undertaking for aucb a young community. Urounds muat be provided and buildings erected. The ground? were secured and large tents did service for holding exhibits. The result of this enterprise on the part ot the people was a very creditable fair held in October of last year, about fourteen months after Redmond gained a place on the map of Oregon. Those that took advantage of the opportunity to insiect the crot ot the new country that had been known only as a "desert" were amazed The fair this year is . better in every respect. GOING AFTER Road Supervisor Mclaughlin h&a been waging war on noxious weeds in Crook county. The most totheraome and numerous weed be haa to contend with ia the Russian thistle. A few years ago there was not much of it to be found in the county but today, especially along Crooked river, plenty of it ia found. It ia spreading rapidly and the road master ia trying to stamp it out. Property owners that do not obey orders will be prosecuted, Besides the Russian thistle there lateral H, main canal, ia six lis the Canadian thistle and the miles lone and will necessitate the Chinese thistle. In their wander ings they drifted down into Lane county where they helped them selves to a couple of horses and then started across the mountains. Sheriff Elkins was notified to be on the lookout and when they arrived at Sisters were arretted. Before reaching Sisters the young desper adoes held up and robbed an old man by the name of Patterson, re lieving him of 110. The Lane county officials have been apprised of the arrest and officers from that county arrived n Prineville yesterday morning to get the young culprits. TIMBER Send for Premium List to President or Secretary As quite a number of Prineville people are getting ready to go to Lakeview for the opening of the reserve on uctober as, the fol lowing from the Lakeview Exami ner may prove interesting: Hundreds of people are expected here at the opening of the reserve on October 28, when the lands will be opened for filing or selection. On September 28, settlement may be commenced, but no filings will be accepted for 30 days. This ruling is in conformity with the department's policy in giving set tlers an opportunity to settle upon lands released from withdrawals over scrippers and timber land seekers. In order to profit by the leniency of the ruling, it is true, perjury must De com mitted, and he who is caught at it must look for punishment. Under the present ruling a person may go upon a tract o( land on Septem ber zoth and begin settlement. On October 28, he can file a home stead on the ground of prioroccu- nation.
