There are those who believe Mr.i Moody is an Eastern Oregon man only nominally. At any rate it is true that congressionally speaking Eastern Oregon is only a tail to the Multnomah kite. Without regard to party lines, the people of this section are tired of this. Portland not only controls the nominations but the elections as well. The habits, the pursuits and oc cupations of the people of Multno mah, Clatsop and Columbia are wholly foreign to those of Eastern Oregon. Multnomah should trn in tne first district where it belonss and to balance up the population, Lake and Klamath, which are East ern Oregon counties should come to the second district if it be neces sary for the second district to ex tend to the sea, why not embrace ome of the Southern Oregon coun tiesJosephine and Jackson for instance which are mining counties and whose interests are identical with the country east of the moun tains. It is' evident that the people have borne this abont as long as they intend to. Mr. Moody is not the only candidate for.congress. J. N. Williamson, a brainier man, and a man who does not really belong to Eastern Oregon is an avowed aspi rant. If Mr. Williamson will cut loose entirely from the Simon com bination and use his influence toj Jiave the state redietricted, he will secure enough democratic votes to make up for the few Simon votes he might lose and be will go to congress. Democrats and renubli- cans will stand in together on this proposition. As it is, Eastern Ore gon has not the ghost of a show for anything in the way of favors from congress. No appropriations can come this way. Portland is stand ing like a professional mendicant, with her big mit extended and after she gets half what she ask3 for, the state of Oregon can expect nothing more, Baker Citv Democrat. I C. "A very cheap little parasitical paper printed in Portland says: 'Mr. Scott, as a candidate for Mr. Simon's seat in the United States senate, is not an impartial judge of Mr. Simon's acts.' In tho thvt place it is not Mr. Simon's seat but a seat belonging to the state of Or egon, which the people of Oregon will have an opportunity to fill soon, as they may think fit. Governor Geer has received a pe tition for the pardon of L. L. Cooke, who was convicted of man slaughter in Gilliam county in September, 1900. It is alleged in Cook's behalf that he killed J.
