Reed, pastor of Miles Chapel CME church, has announced his candidacy for the editorship of the Western Index, one of tl.e official organs of the CME church, it was revelaed here Fri day afternoon. The Western Index had its beginning in Topeka, Kan., near ly two score years ago under the editorship of Dr. J. A. Ham- lett (now Bishop Hamlett) under the name of the Western Trum pet. Dr. Hamlett operated it out of his personal funds several years and brought himself fame and nationwide recognition for his penetrating analysis and the fearlessness a n d forcefulness with which he expressed him self on vital issues. Dr. Reed is a native Louisian ian, was trained at Haywood col lege, Pine Bluff, Ark., and has had important pastorages in Monroe, La.; Hot Springs, Ark.; Mexico, Mo.; Nacogdoches, Tex.; Port Arthur, Tex., and Miles chapel here in Tyler.
